domestic violence as a pre-existing condition? wtf?

i just read this on the feministing blog. some insurance companies are now counting domestic violence as a pre-existing condition for insurance. this enrages me beyond words.

You mean like if the beaten spouse goes to the hospital it's not covered by insurance?

 

Of course, because those insurance companies are soulless.

 

So you have to declare yourself as an abused wife on your insurance application form. I've fucking heard it all now!!!!!!!!!!! Have these people no shame?

 

Absurd... but not surprising. I've heard all I need to hear about health insurance companies to know how soul-less it must be.
I know we don't have the best health care, but I'm glad in a way for having the NHS, at least if you need decent health care you don't need to use these insurance firms for it...
