Some time back, a prison guard spoke out against how some inmates were being neglected and abused. Isn't it your job to punish people, they asked him. He said, no, being imprisoned is their punishment. A corrections officer is only supposed to maintain order in a prison or jail. They are also supposed to make sure that the inmates are well cared for and to look after their physical and psychological health.
