I know there's supposed to be a risk of serotonin syndrome. I took DXM, a 350mg or so dose, not realizing until the day after there was a potential for risk, but I was fine. I even did 2 hits of acid not realizing the risk was still eminent, and again I was fine. Tonight I am taking a 500mg DXM dose. I have an hypothesis that when the drug companies came up with the warnings, they way over stated the risks, probably for legal reasons, and that even relatively high doses of DXM, LSD, and other serotonin affecting drugs are still relatively safe. I'm sure no doctor would tell you this, again for legal reasons, but I'm not a doctor. My purpose is to help appease worries of fellow Lexapro users. I must mention that in prior research I found that Lexapro actually doesn't interfere with your ability to trip nearly as much as other antidepressants, which are notorious for doing so. I will update tomorrow on my state, (if I remember ) I might also add, if you are planning your first DXM trip and you are on an antidepressant, my advice is stop for a couple weeks and then try, in case you don't have the proper enzymes for processing DXM. If you didn't, and you took DXM on an antidepressant, it might be bad...
I think some of the confusion arrises because people hear the warnings about mixing MAOI inhibitors with serotonergics. This doesn't extend to DXM. But has the combination been studied? Well now it has. There is a metabolic interaction when taking DXM and SSRIs (such as lexapro), or bupropion together for example, because the enzyme that metabolizes DXM is inhibited by the SSRI. So I suppose what might happen depending on dosage is that the duration of DXM would be much longer than normal and other possible toxicity. But some of this may depend on isoenzymes and genetic differences amongst cytochrome oxidases. DXM + SSRI should not result in serotonin syndrome but might result in a bad DXM situation. Serotonin syndrome is almost exclusively caused by an MAOI with other serotonergics.
Well, I'm fine. The trip was terrible though, I kept spiraling into psychosomatic sickness at the mere thought of serotonin syndrome. When I was a child I had the traumatic experience of ODing on children's Tylenol, and all sorts of distantly familiar senses of alarm came flooding back to me, the kind of alarm that screams, "Oh, GOD! What have I done?! I'm going to die!!" I threw up, to say the least. [font="]I might also add that I smoked a lot of weed and there was a chance I was feeling heightened emotions due to withdrawal symptoms of attempting to quick my Lexapro. (I was at day 3 and my experience in the past was you don't really start feeling strange until day 5 or more, but still.)[/font] So, my psychosomatic sickness episodes brought on all the symptoms of serotonin syndrome, and so I had no way of knowing if I actually was sick or not. If it hadn't been for my best friend, who's extremely knowledgeable of drugs and such things, staying on the phone with me for 5 hours trying to keep me safe from myself, I probably could have died, at least have been scarred for life, probably with PTSD to deal with. So, in conclusion, I guess I should suggest, never robo-tripping if there's even a tiny doubt about the outcome of the trip, especially if you’re on an antidepressant and you’re at all worried about serotonin syndrome. I probably won't do DXM again, unless it's a long time from now where I no longer possess any reasons for having a bad trip. So, again, I’m fine – whatever that means.
i'm on lexapro and have been for a quite a while. i've never had a single bad experience, especially from robotripping, because of it. :-/
Doing DXM on lexapro or any antidepressant makes the robotrip more intense. I've taken 20, 40, and 60 miligrams of lexapro right before tripping on delsym, wal tussin gel tabs, and pure DXM powder. I wouldn't suggest doing it more than once every 2 months because you build up a tolerance quickly, and you can get Onle's Lessions (Microscopic Holes in your Brain). It is fun to do once in a while though BTW Taking risperdal and antidepressants right before tripping on DXM will make the trip so intense you may completely break from reality, and think you are dying (you're not of course). If you aren't experienced wth drugs (like acid and molly, not weed), don't mix risperdal and cough syrup under any circumstances. If you are experienced with drugs the risperdal/lexapro/DXM trip is better than taking fifty hits of acid and three triple stack E pills. Just be careful. Never mix more than 3mg risperdal with DXM, and never ever take more than twice your recommended dose of antidepressant before robotripping. Better safe than sorry. Oh yea and Cocidin C&C's can kill you (not always but there is a chance) because of the acetaminophen (over the counter painkiller) in them. I would never try to get high on them.
why would u wanna take Lexapro? i hear its a crappy drug that actually has withdrawal symptoms after stopping it. but to u people that take lexapro does it actually do anything for u when ur on it? what does it do?
Hi fellow psychonauts and robo-heads! You can call me "C". This is to help those wanting to continue dxm while fighting the minds vicious demonic battles (whatever that may be for you). For me? Its GAD (Google it bro ) it came from having drug addicts for parents and eventually my own substance abuse problem. Enough about me. For your sake I can say it's been a very long journey and it still is. Dxm is not for the weak minded. My mind is strong which is why I'm still breathing and able to write this Just remember that dxm is VERY confusing and can lead to a psychotic meltdown..however, as long as you remember that these effects are only temporary then you should be fine. No respiratory problems, no problematic psychosis, no olney's lession, and no seratonin syndrome or death. As long as you believe in yourself and your own mind then you will be fine.
