So i'm heading to Mecca from Nov. 14 till Dec. 8...i'll arrive in the morning of the 15th and leave early the 8th. So that leaves me with 22 good nights in the city...so my question is how much spending money i should take...the flight and hostel stay for the 22 nights is running me $950 even...thats covered so now im crunching #'s to see what i need. A lil background so you guys get the picture of what im after. I'm a 19yr kid from the states heading out by myself and plan on living it up. That means smoking a lot everyday, mostly weed(i dont fuck that much with hash). I seriously doubt i'll be making any stops in the RLD...i mean i'll definitely check it out but im not down with paying for any services. As far as food goes i can seriously go with just a nice breakfast and a nice dinner, maybe a snack in between...I dont see myself eating in 5 star restaurants and simple is fine with me. Im not too interested with the boozes and dont smoke and drink at the same time. I'll defineitly be doing lots of clubbin and sight seeing...maybe even take a short 3 day trip to Germany(MAYBE)...I'm taking everything i need from home and could care less about bringing stuff back(Souvenirs)...if the Exchange Rate stays how its been i could easily do $1500 which turns into like $55 a day...could i enjoy my 1st trip with that?...i need your help here guys...thanxs in advance every1!!

I would seriously consider seeing some more of Europe while you're there. 22 days is too long to spend in Amsterdam. It's a very small city and for a small city there is a lot to do, but not for 22 days. The rest of the Netherlands can be done in a few day trips.

22 days........... gonna b an awsome time

if u wanna smoke alot.... u should bring more than $1500
pot can b kinda expensive for a "1st timer"
u gotta look 4 the deals......
try a few "house bag's"....... it's still realy good bud.....
but u get more 4 ur money.......the "noon" cs has very
good blueberry bud, at a nice price.......
but u realy cant go wrong with a "house bag"
or just look 4 the special on the menu
    have fun
    peace

you should be fine. don't drink coke, a can will set you back 2.25 at a restaurant. try to buy bread and meat at the supermarket.

and yeah, if its your first trip to europe and you have that much time, you might as well take advantage of the common currency and take some side trips to belgium or france, of course that will take a bite out of your budget. maybe if you are a student you can get a rail discount.

Myrtje, please don't allow yourself to be blinded by your own sence of national pride. I know you feel very proud about being Dutch, but that doesn't change the fact that the country is VERY small and can be covered in very little time. You can drive the whole country in 3 hours.

That's not to say that there aren't some great places to visit, but you don't need to do more than day trips in most cases. Like I said earlier, for a small place there is a lot to do, but it is a VERY small country.

It's a small country, but we have a big historie. You can't see everything with just day trips.

man, is it possible for dutch people to sit back and be objective about their country for just one minute?

Of course holland has a big history (not all of it that rosy btw), but a visitor might not necessarily want to spend his/her time exploring every possible aspect of the country. The simple fact is that you can base yourself in Amsterdam and explore the other places of interest through day trips. With the possible exception of Maasticht (which could warrant an overnight if you were particularly interested), it is not necessary to stay anywhere else. Unless you consider travelling an hour or so on a train to necessitate an overnight stay.

Keeping in mind that fact that the original poster is travelling to the netherlands primarilly for the pot, I think it unlikely that he/she will be all that intersted in spending significant amounts of time learning the history of delft blauw.

Then again, if I have of made a post suggesting that the netherlands is HUGE and that you would need at least 3 months to cover it, then I suspect that the dutch posters would have signalled in, percieving some anti-oranje sentiment and proceed to argue the opposite of what they are now.

haha blinded by pride, dont be funny. the fact that you can drive trough it in 3 hours doesnt mean youve seen or know it all. there are many places in this country ive never been to and many stories i havent heard. if you think that all there is to ANY country can be seen in a couple of days, youre just a complete idiot.

Were not even saying any person would want to see or know everything, youre blinded by your own thought that were just blinded by pride and cant handle criticism whatsoever. we can, were only saying youre wrong. there IS more to the country than a few daytrips, wether or not someone wants to see more is up to them.

myrtje don't be stupid, a normal tourist isn't interested in the history of every city in a country, no matter what country it is.. The average tourist is happy with the most famous places and can see our country in a couple of days..
But indeed, there is more to a country than that and if you want to get the full and complete experience you'll have to stay for a longer period of time.. But the average tourist isn't interested in that.. And you must know by now what jason means.. don't give him any ammo, it's better to ignore these remarks ;)

Thank you. Contrary to how it might appear at times, I do not wish to build up more evidence of many of my own perceptions of dutch culture. I actually find it really refreshing an reassuring when I come across a dutch person who is not towing the party line. I know that my comment here will undoubtably come across as condescending, but it is not meant to be.

my dear, you hit the nail right on the head. you either give him a chance to say 'see i told you dutch people always....' or he gets to tell us about how well travelled and educated he is.

either way. he's boring as hell.

    isn't that right, jason?
