I was listening to US General Jack Keane this morning saying that the US had a responsibility for what is happening in Iraq today. I mean many people thought the war was a mistake and then the occupation seemed to just pile mistake upon mistake. And many think the problems there now go back to those mistakes. (try and read Imperial life in the Emerald City by Rajiv Chandrasekaran) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Imperial-Life-Emerald-City-Baghdads/dp/0747592896"]Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Baghdad's Green Zone: Amazon.co.uk: Rajiv Chandrasekaran: Books So should the US help and if so how?
The government has the responsibility to serve the interests of the people of the united states. Do we have an interest in fighting? Not if we have to do it. Who has an interest in conflict, geopolitical players and geopolitical players play for resources meaning big money. The peoples politic is in maintaining our own reputation and so the military industrial oligarchy is an animal off the leash of it's own interest and accord. The unassuming of privilege or the general population are frankly fed up.
The American people don't want it. For sure not! Iraq will always be fucked and not able to take care of their own shit. Biggest mistake ever going in there and no, the US should NOT do anything. I don't think the US gov will try.... but God, I saw Obama on tv talking about it and got the feeling more "help" is a possibility. I hope not.
No. I dont believe the United States is ever motivated by anything but personal interest therefore I am suspicious of the word "help" I think the entire western world should just leave the middle east alone
Only the USA?. Nato. Sure, if they want our help. Why? Only the USA?. Nato. Sure, if they want our help. Foreign troops etc have been in countries after war for years have they not?
Yes America does have a responsibility. Even if we were not involved prior we would have a responsibility as mass murders are taking place, torture, rape. This is a human rights issue.
The only way to help is to install a brutal dictator who can keep differing violent factions in line and prevent sectarian violence. Shame Saddam Hussein isn't around. Whatever happened to him anyway?
US has to look after its own shit, otherwise it will in a few decades end up where the EU is now and have no money to help anyone anyway
Well, consider this. ISIS said Brett McGurk, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Iran and Iraq, said http://www.examiner.com/article/isis-leader-threatens-soon-we-will-be-direct-confrontation-with-u-s
The US did everything possible to help them and they wasted it. you can teach a man to fish but you cant make him throw the line in the water.
True. To add: Is being 'Sunni' or 'Shia' really worth killing/dying for? http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2014/jun/13/iraq-separate-sunni-shia-regions-kurds-autonomy
Well, we brutally attacked their country, tore it apart, killed hundreds of thousands of them, and displaced several million more, and then failed to find what we said was the reason for attacking them. It's really a no-brainer.
Well, we can't return the lives we've taken, but we have a responsibility to repair or replace what we've destroyed.
Why does the US have a responsibility every time those things happen everywhere in the world to assist? Don't you think the US should focus also or mainly on taking care of the many problems in it's own country?
