I have been told on many occasions that acid makes you more intelligent. I don't think that's necessarily the case, the reality may not be so straightforward.

Many times I have come to the conclusion that it's all a trade-off. You lose as much as you gain. Yin yang, as matter cannot be created nor destroyed, neither can the matter of principle or idea. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.

You lose a little bit of what makes you individual. You lose your grasp on modern culture and that which makes you a human being. This is why many of those who are very involved in the man-made society have dangerous reactions to the chemical. Your abilities to communicate and use conversational skills, as well as develop yourself according to those around you suffer greatly. You may not fit-in as you used to, but neither did many of the world's greatest thinkers and philosophers. Thought itself can be an enjoyable pastime, although once the mind is able to interact with all that it comes in contact with generally there is no longer a desire to continue learning. Those who see through this and continue to embrace free thought are often considered irrational or deranged, because the majority of the minds out there would prefer against this thinking, or are otherwise incapable.

Equally great is the knowledge acquired, if you are ready. You find a greater purpose, and then even beyond that, you find no purpose at all. You see yourself for what you really are, first an animal, and then an undefined part of a fluid universe. You come to terms with the fact that maybe the world you once saw is not what it seemed at first glance. Learning to question the reliability of your own interpretation, you start to understand that the universe isn't so static. Much of what you know about your surroundings may only exist within your head, both color coded for you and 'color' coded for you as your mind adjusts that which is your environment to accommodate the senses.

Anyone have a different opinion? Agree? I'd like to hear some insight here.

    :cheers2:

    dude thats a mature outlook

I just think that the intelligence you can gain from taking drugs is an internal intelligence and this might never show itself in your external interactions with other normal people. No one should think it makes you smarter, but it might be an integral component of a lifestyle shift that involves greater awareness of what the world means to you and what you mean to the world. Ability to discern exactly what things are or what the best plan of action is, are not faculties of the mind that taking psychedelics improves.

but i think that is because things arent really anything specific until we make social agreements, and it is the socially programmed mind that psychedelics loosen up, thus allowing greater awareness but less ability to share specific points with other people

Does it make you smarter? Maybe. Does it expand your consciousness? Definitely.

You can't necessarily say it makes people smarter, but it definitely has expanded my mind on views of my life, society and the universe. I found it has made me come to a greater inner peace within myself as well.

    Hard question to answer

    I think "yes"

But I think that "smarter" is a very subjective term

I think LSD is nothing more than an experience. And experience is wisdom. So, its not going to give you a higher IQ, but it will give you experience, and some profound experience at that.

Incidentally, everything in life gives you experience, so LSD is not necesary for wisdom. IMHO. I don't think that LSD/mushies/drugs in general hold any mystical powers. I think that they are just very intense experiences that can alter how you cope with the world because of how they change your perspective.

it can make you smarter, sillier, more fearful, hornier, humbler, more arrogant, etc.

I feel like I'm more of everything PA (post-acid). more human I guess.

instead of making me drop out, acid helped me graduate early! take that, mainstream media! :p

i'd say that acid has the potential to make us smarter. but it also has the potential to make us burnt out. it a sense it doesn't neccesarily make us smarter, just more motivated sometimes. there really isn't much that you can't do when you put your mind to it. i'm not a big fan of the idea that some people are born smarter than others. i think we all have the same potential in that regard. some people are just too braindead and scared to actually use their potential. acid can really help wake us up to this potential that we all have.

although aside from helping us tap into our potential, it can definitely increase the boundaries to which we can think. the ways that i have understood calculus and some mathematical concepts after a good acid trip are just beyond normal comprehension. lsd definitely has helped me learn and reason in ways that i just wouldn't have been able to otherwise.

it has also helped cultivate my love for culture and the arts.

but i think a better idea would be to pose the question: just what is 'smart?'

Haha, I think it just greatly depends on the individual. I don't know if it's always so much a trade off, but I do believe the fact behind matter isn't always so straight forward --

I'd say, it's not so much that you are increasing your intelligence, but rather becoming more aware of what is out there. You step out of the box you created for yourself and look at things more honestly. You turn your head away from the fear, you turn your head away from societies mainstream concepts and beliefs, and you might even learn to turn your head towards something that really matters like compassion. You start thinking for yourself again, and in this day in age it's dangerous :)

You just see the way things are. You see the good, you see the bad. Above all though, you may need to learn to accept things and live with them. Most tend to start noticing the sliminess that is all pervasive in general amongst people in social interaction and business, and the corruption that is out there, and become a bit reclusive -- maybe you are referring to people like that. Some notice how the greed, need and fear controls people. But that's no big deal. That's just awareness. Now you know. You may have preferred to be ignorant now that you know, but what can you do? Now you know.

Hey maybe now I'm fucking out there too now! Maybe to some laymen I'm making no fucking sense right now. Who knows. I'm happier, I was regretful at times with my drug use, but I've settled down. It made me not take things for granted. You probably would never even know I fucked around with this shit if you met me. I say, it's the individual - and their ability to look completely honest at the matter.

Look at a child. Free, loving, joyful and happy and complete in their heart. Then our "man-made" society as you call it introduces their concepts and rules, their opinions, tells them how to be and what they need. Then they start thinking and acting like everybody else, being programmed from the start to think it's what they need. It fucks em up I'd say, and acid is potentially the key to reversal (in the right hands).

But like I said, maybe I'm out there. Maybe I'm not. I could go into all of this, but for what? Lol. The knowledge gets boring after a point. What good are idea's and thought's we can't really put into action? Then you're just sitting around the house all day being a smart ass. I guess that's where ACID fails for some people who love the knowledge and intelligence end of it -- It's like -- Then what? What to do with this? If it's ultimately making the society you're living in harder to deal with, what is it for? Where's the good?

I could go in a million directions, but I'll stop.

Cheers brahh, you sound like a smart cookie. You ever dose yourself? Can't really pick up any direct references in your post too it.

I guess the real question is "what is smart?"
LSD makes me realize a lot about society and human nature, and a lot of the time does make me wonder what the hell the point is.
It's fair to say that I was a different person before using hallucinogens. Maybe smarter, maybe just more open-minded. Either way, I'm happy with the result, and that's what really matters.
