Does anyone still use mephedrone (mkat, mcat, meow meow, bubbles, 4mmc) these days?

    Hello guys,

My name is G1ng and I was wondering if anyone is still taking Mephedrone (mkat, mcat, meow meow, bubbles, bath salts)? When I was in university it hit in a big way and spread over my halls of residence so incredibly fast and it seemed everyone was at it, so much so that I chose to focus on it as my dissertation project that year (as well as plenty of unofficial introspective research myself). I am currently carrying out further research on this drug and have not found many regular users of Mephedrone, I was wondering if anyone on here is still enjoying this strange and exciting substance and whether they would be willing to share their experiences since the ban and your general opinions on the drug.

I have both a personal and research interest in this substance. I am more than happy to discuss both my published and unpublished previous work (both focused on cortisol levels in Mephedrone and MDMA users and the possible associated cognitive effects), I look forward to hearing about your current Mephedrone experiences, cheers!

I tried it a couple times when it first got big. It's certainly a fantastic high. I found it has the warmth of MDMA but with the sort of sober, light stimulation of cocaine, but the down is kinda nasty and it seems to wreak havoc on your life if you do it a lot (although I'm not saying that from personal experience). I don't use it anymore.

I'd say it's one of those drugs to try a couple times, but, beyond that, there's not really that much more you can get out of it.

It does feel fucking good though.

No recent experiences with it. I wrote a pretty good paper on it in college and predicted it would come to the US before bath salts and plant food were available in the US, due to It's popularity in the UK at the time.. Didn't get a very good grade on it, methinks largely due to the subject content. :D

Mephedrone made me feel really stupid and lightheaded while on it, didn't really see much value in it aside from recreation and haven't tried it for years. Methylone is still around though and I could see that as possibly an adjunct to psychedelic therapy if not producing some of It's own therapeutic affects.

It's a very interesting point you make about being a "couple of times" drug, it does seem that those who have a few early experiences and get out sharpish seem to remember it fondly and those who really get involved over a prolonged period get caught up in all sorts of negative consequences (with some unbelievable injection stories becoming increasingly common), what prompted you to stop Hedgeclipper?

Ive always wondered whether the negative spin I put on prohibition of drugs in my work went against me and I guess it did looking back, not gonna stop me from having a progressive and alternative view though! Despite it lack of use other than recreation, is mephedrone still prevalent in your area guerillabedlam?

Back when it got really popular (and you could still buy in stores), I was introduced to me by some friends that I typically associated with for things related to opiates. Luckily the girl who first gave me some to try told me how small of an amount to use and explained to me that many times people do way too much of it. I say luckily because of two reasons... I can't say I used bath salts for an extended period of time all the time....but for a short period of time, I did use them pretty often. But I seemed to have found a sweet spot with them.... just a little bump or two at a time, sometimes with and sometimes without opiates.... and I never had any of the negative effects that I've heard of MANY people having with them. The most (bad) that ever happened to me was my heart raced pretty fast once after doing one too many speed balls w them before my morning shower. But that went away pretty quickly.

Anyways I usually just kept it to pretty small amounts...repeat fairly often, yes, but not overboard. A canister ($10) of Bliss would last me anywhere from half a week to a week... so I wasn't doing huge amounts of it and I think that's why most of my experiences were positive. I ran into a guy later who went to rehab for it who the first time he did some he snorted a whole canister of it at once... like they were huge coke lines. Obviously not the way to do it.

Anyways it made me feel energetic and euphoric but not in a crazy way. I still slept every night. I didn't get paranoid. It was just a warm, euphoric high for me that I did really like. But I also heard some crazy stories from some of my friends about their paranoia and crazy stuff they did on it... I think you have to be really careful not to do too much of that stuff and I also think most of the bad rep bath salts got (get) is because of people not knowing how much to do and abusing it.

Since it became illegal to buy or sell in stores I ordered once online..this was years ago now...and the stuff I got, even though it was "supposed" to be great really, really sucked.
And I just haven't had any interest since .... nor do I know anyone who does this stuff now.

That does seem to be the usual trajectory of the past user who remembers their use fondly, it seems like the classification of mephedrone had the effect of catching some in the honeymoon phase of their use, cutting off (or at least severely limiting the quality of) supply before any ugliness transpired, either that or your (very sensible) dosage techniques prevented the crazy bingeing associated with mephedrone sometimes, which would you attribute your favourable experiences to AmericanTerrorist?

As you said MANY people experienced some pretty negative effects, as much as I am far from a proponent of prohibition, it does beg the question of whether it would have got further out of hand or levelled out if it had remained unregulated, and whether classification stropped many (perhaps like yourself) following a trajectory with mephedrone use that may inevitably lead to the negative effects reported by the many...

Nope, probably about a year ago I was sold like methylone or maybe butylone under the guise of 'Molly' but that's the last I've tried or seen cathinones.

Aside from it in some bath salts, which was often mixed with MDPV, mephedrone was never really a popular street drug here, I had a UK vendor.

I think methylone is a common substitute hereabouts. Also, MDMA with a small amount of MDPV. It's actually quite a good roll, but I'd rather stay away from MDPV.

apparently the trees that contain MDMA precursors are becoming a rarer commodity. http://www4.ncsu.edu/~rjdoming/
