Doc Martens are slip-resistant in ice, right?

    Now to boast,
I am so stoked. I scored a pair of black Doc Marten T-strap mary janes from Goodwill earlier today in MY SIZE (a size I always have trouble fitting) and in great condition. $4.00 instead of more like $100 for a new pair. I'm breaking them in as we speak.

Oh, oh, one more thing--this pair was just old enough to still have been made in ENGLAND, not China (they too unfortunately moved their manufacturing facilities to China).

    Merry Christmas to me. :D

oh i know exactly how you feel! back before halloween i found a pair of like-new timberlands in my size at the salvation army for five bucks! they had obviously been put there by someone who wore them for fashion and not for work or hiking. they only had one tiny scratch on the right toe and other than that they were immaculate. i don't know where they were made but i've really been enjoying them. one less thing in a landfill!

Weird, in my head I replied to this a long time ago.

I wore them in the ice over Christmas in Mt. Shasta and they worked out pretty well--better than my sneakers, at least. I didn't fall once this year! Quite an accomplishment.

That is genius, drumminmama. Just like tire chains but for shoes. Hmm, I wonder if I could replicate the concept.

I got the best new pair of Doc's the other day. 14 up tan brown boots with normal laces and ribbons as well. But oh, there's more. They fold down to normal 8 ups and the insides are tartan. I love them. More than life itself.

Lace, I thought about it, and while my thinking was on the mini bungee cord and twisted paper clip line, I kept seeing a POP and no more "you trax"

If you were making then for a certain pair of shoes, and did not need to be able to adjust much, I bet it could be done with thin strapping and springs.
