Immediately recognizing that pilots on commuter airlines do not work 40 hours a week

    http://www.nydailynews.com/ny_local...uffalo_flight_3407_was_paid_16000_a_year.html

16,000 is not enough to live on in most parts of the north east. or, most parts of this country.

and since she is on a regional commuter carrier, she probably had to pay for her flights to work (there are crash pads, I know this, most require rent)

it is not fucking cool for people to drop blame on her.

it is not fucking cool for that much responsibility to be put up for that little pay.

period, end of story. more of the pay NEEDS to be getting cut from executive salaries and not pilots

did you know that the pilot who saved all of those people on that plane that crashed in new york had gotten a pay cut just before he did that?

    thoughts?

In fact, not only is that dangerous, but I am really shocked. And I agree with your executive pay cuts scenario

Well it is interesting how some things work out.

    This is a marketplace decision.

And though I do feel for the Co-pilot, I do have to ask myself....

Why would someone work for that shitty of a wage?

We can work for nothing or we can work for major money.

It is a personal decision. People let themselves be exploited.

Must be a self esteem issue in there somewhere.

    The world isn't unfair.

People who work construction should be paid higher wages for breaking their back.

    Teachers should be paid better.

I can go on and on.

The world doesn't work that way though.

    Oh well...

    1. the world is unfair, not everyone gets cancer, or is an orphan, etc.

    2. Good teachers should be paid better, not elementary school teachers who are BARELY babysitters (most aren't this way, but REALLY some of them are complete shit)

    3. yes, this was probably a self esteem issue

    4. there NEEDED to be better oversight on this airline. the FAA should have salary minimums in place for commercial carriers.

I don't think they are making too much money, but if I had it my way, those jobs wouldn't exist. Instead those people would be working for a local burger chain (if that) or some other hash sling joint. I think the employees would respect themselves and their jobs a lot more too.

As far as pilots? They need to be paid considerably different, taking account the danger of their job and the responsibility that they hold

    1. I meant to say that the world is unfair, but I guess I mistyped. The exhausted brain after the first day of work is allowed to make mistakes.

    2. I hate elementary teachers with a passion, especially here in America. It's always dumb sorority girls. I had really really good elementary teachers in Israel though.

    Hey Dave:

It is not that I disagree. Being a Co pilot is a huge responsibility and should be paid well.

But if you look at things in perspective this is almost normal.

    You live in Nevada, yes?

Perhaps you can tell me who makes a better wage between a Blackjack dealer and a car Valet.

Both have to go through background checks and drug screenings.

The Blackjack dealer is responsible for a huge amount of money. They are constantly being monitored and timed.

They get chewed out when they do not deal as many hands as they are supposed to per hour.

They get gripped if they are impolite to customers. Security constantly monitors them to make sure they are not making inside deals with customers.

If the money is short they get fired.

The car Valet parks cars. That is all they do. As long as nothing is stolen from the car and they do not damage the car they are fine.

    Who has more responsibility?

The Blackjack dealer. Who get paid more?

In most cases the Valet makes 2 to 4 times the money or more with less responsibility.

Nope, it is not fair. It is just the way it is.
