Do you have a library membership and use it? Be honest, it’s ok if you don’t. I haven’t used my town’s library to study or check out books in a long time. The last time I used my local library was to make photocopies. However I did use the library in my old city when I lived nearby; it was an awesome neoclassical building that felt good to be inside of. But lately I haven’t done much book renting. Before we had internet, my family would go to the library every week.
Yep, and my kids had membership since they were tiny, and in turn, they have memberships for their children.. Library's in UK are cool places to go.. they hold events over school holidays for children of all ages. There are computers with access to most family history sites, free of charge.. and they have pre school events every week.. No hush hush either.. self check in and out books.. great places!
My town doesn't have a library... seeing some of these knuckle-draggers that live around here... they probably don't read anyways.
I used to go every couple of weeks or so. We're lucky to have a good library, or any library, out where I live. I've been reluctant to go the past few years however. The new librarian, 'Misty', is an ex-stripper I used to, umm, 'know' .
My mom used to take me a couple of times a month growing up. It was my favorite thing to do. The library when I was a kid had a giant spinning globe in the middle of it and it also had a bricked in, circular staircase that led down to the children's section. It was the greatest. I miss that library so much. I still go to the library on occasion but not often. I usually go to the used bookstore and buy big stacks of books instead
Yeah, I use my library membership fairly regularly. Lots of books can be read online, but I am a child of '81, and thus somewhat old-skool, and I prefer having an actual book to read.
The library is somewhat sectioned in a community area, so fates, fairs, markets etc. are often near the library. I'm in the same boat, I really haven't gone for a long time. When we first moved back here we didn't have the internet so we had to use it for online stuff which was scary because we were banking on random public computer systems.
I went fairly regularly up until this year. I've been only a few times this year and have not checked out a book.
I used to use it more when I did not have access to the internet otherwise. I never liked libraries though, and it always made me uncomfortable to be in one. I could never figure out why, but libraries always gave me the creeps, despite my appreciation of the concept.
we have a tiny library here on the island which I use occasionally......just returned a crappy book on bikers and I use their colour copier o a regular basis....its always empty
I've been using the library a ton this summer. Mainly to check out movies. There are about six in the area and all of them have a different selection. I just finished watching all the original Star Trek episodes.
In my town where I grew up, the city council decided to close down and desert the historic library, and build a new fancy one. Once the new one was built, they hardly had enough funding to keep the place going. They spent more money than they could afford, and painted themselves into a corner. I guess they eventually pulled through, the place is still up and running, but for a while its fate was in question.
I used to visit regularly until I borrowed all the books that interested me. That took a few years. Have lately been sourcing the libraries, historical societies, for the maritime museum project - 'Port of Ballina'. These days I use the Internet to source my books, and then purchase them through Amazon. Then after reading the book I donate to the library.
I like to go to the library to use the computer. It's more fun when there are other people all around. Sometimes people will forget to log out of their facebook, too, and it's fun to post a crazy message for them. I did that once or twice.
It is 30 miles to the library and I can't find anything there that I want to read anyways. So not very often.
Yes I am a member - but do not use it as much as I should. I enrolled my Grandchildren in my local library, who transferred it to the one where they live; where they are regular users =
