I rarely look at myself in the mirror and just generally feel good about myself without having to check. I think the world would be a better place if everyone stopped checking the mirror obsessively, what about you?

I think that we would generally be happier without having to worry constantly about our appearance, and a lack of mirrors would force us to find the beauty in other people rather than constantly focusing in on ourselves.

Yeah, on second thought, a society without any mirrors of any sort really can't function, but the concept is nice.

I don't really check myself after eating but I never really have food all over myself

And yeah the car mirror thing is a good point, but cars are another stress I feel people would be a lot better off without :p

yeah idk if that would be so good, cuz i think people would still wonder what they look like. like you'd have a face but you'll always wonder what people see. mirrors are a relief in that sense.

I think that would only be a problem the first generation, the kids wouldn't be born with the knowledge of needing to see their own face

I find this to be a silly thought. Superficiality comes from a lack of depth in one's own thinking, or over-impressionability of social pressure. That wouldn't change without mirrors, cameras, or anything else.

Plus, one would still be able to measure their looks by things like how popular they are with strangers of the opposite sex.

what I meant was more along the lines of little stresses such as before you walk out of the house you have to check the mirror - with no mirrors no one would be able to check and stress about it

but try having a little faith, just because something is one way now doesn't mean we can't help it along to being another way in the future

Again - isn't their inner psyche more responsible for that behavior than the mirror itself.
I had a bit of what psychologists refer to as "checking" for a while. It's when you have an innate desire to check and make sure you did this or that. (An extreme case would be needing to run back home and make sure the stove is off.) For me, it was the alarm. I would be just falling back asleep, and then I would all of a sudden doubt that I set the alarm, so I'd have to get up and check. Often, I would worry the next time I was falling asleep that maybe I set it for PM instead of AM -- and have to check.

I certainly wouldn't blame my poor alarm clock for such craziness :)
