do you? I don't really consider myself a hippy. When I first signed up, I guess I did. But now I am so far from hippy, I dont even know. I think I may be a bit out of place here on the forums. But I'm still here, because the people on here are so kind and everyone has an interesting story to tell.
Observation: I believe that I have met several true hippies, but very few or none who called themselves hippie. Real freedom of self includes freedom from labels, I think.
No, I am a hippie. I have days where I don't feel I am. Those days were I just hate everything. Thank god I very rarely have those. I love the hippie thought, dress and attitude. Being a hippie rocks.
I do consider myself a hippie. I have been one for 40 years now. I gravitated to the hippie scene in high school (age 14), and have been living the life ever since. Nowadays some might say I was "alternative", or "new age", but when I think of what group I fall into (we do tend to fit in some catagory, like it or not ), I would rather be known as a hippie than by any other available definition. I dropped out of the mainstream 40 years ago, have lived in intentional community for almost 30 years, spent 14 years living in family sized tents in the woods, (with no utilities), birthed 5 children naturally in my tent home, have always lived in some sort of alternative housing, am peaceful, know that the answer to all the worlds problems is LOVE, immensely enjoy flowers of all sorts, live on a converted hippie schoolbus, smoke cannabis, took acid, have long hair and let it all hang out. Still say "far-out and groovy" on occasion, flash people the peace sign when they let me cross the street, get behind all the politically correct idealisms (no active protesting or demonstrating-I hope that doesn't automatically make me a pseudo-hippie), and just have that brilliant glow that hippies seem to always have. Peace and Love !!!
nah i'm like most i dont concider myself anything. wouldnt want to. i was a punk rocker type of kid in high school, still am but mellowed out a bit.
it depends on what one considers a hippy....today's standard of a hippy....i am not. The 60s standard of hippy....well....maybe im more of a beatnik?? that seems to fit my profile a bit better. I know a few older folks that were hippies in the 60s, and they told me that i wouldve fit right in...ill take that as a complement. But Im not down with patchwork clothes, $150 show tickets, the jamband scene, ridiculously expensive drugs....
I think honestly we shouldn't brand ourselves, hippies, potheads, stoner's, leftists, or whatever else category modern society has offered. I am me and thats what I'm stuck with but if I were to categorize myself it would be a hippie/stoner. It's actually kinda funny because if you remember high school and all the clicks their were, it seems as though in life we follow the same people and nothing changes. Not necessarily the persons, but that type of crowd. luckily for me most of my high school was really small and there were no major clicks, although they were noticeable it just wasn't the highest priority. Even as adults were still grouping people together like cattle to ease our memory or preferred lifestyle. it's just sad, "All we need is a voluntary, free-spirited, open-ended program of pro creative racial deconstruction. Everybody just gotta keep fuckin' everybody 'til they're all the same color" - Bulworth
