What is more comfortbale for you guys? I used to watch online before but now I preferto download to have an opportunity to watch whatever I need whenever I need
I don't think I've ever downloaded a video from Youtube. The stuff I watch on youtube is usually idea driven, like philosophy or comedy stuff. So I don't really require super duper specs and can watch most content on my phone via wifi or data.
Streaming it suits me fine. But curiously enough not with porn.. Which most other people seem to stream/watch online. I did download some tunes from youtube once (so sound only, it got converted to a mp3 file i think. Just what I wanted at the time), because i couldn't find those recordings anywhere else. With hindsight I'd say not worth it. The lack of quality stood out among other mp3s
Downloads. Streaming always screws up while I'm driving to work. Just kidding! I can't really tell the difference in most instances, but if I'm somewhere waiting, in a place with no wifi, downloads (pre-downloaded) are more reliable on my phone. If I'm at home, sometimes the wifi gets bogged down, and although I really don't care a whole lot, it is more pleasurable watching certain YouTube videos without constant buffering. As far as video quality goes, I don't really notice.
Thanks a lot, guys. I used to download some series of Game of Thrones on my pc. That was the only thing I have downloaded here for the last two weeks Most of all I watch online because I also have really good network..
I feel like there are loads of ethical considerations when it comes to YouTube. I have stopped using it as much, but I still use it. I don't think some of the songs are supposed to be available for free.
More like most of the songs available there shouldn't be there, but they're there anyway 'cause the community just doesn't give a shit. Sharing is caring, etc. The big record labels have probably spent the past decade secretly cursing Youtube's inception under their breaths. They were already visibly distressed, when Napster and the MP3 file format were introduced. Anyway, to answer the OP, if it's a long video, I prefer to download so I can start and stop anytime I want, jump around freely, and not have to worry about connection problems interrupting me. Fact is, dedicated media players still work much better than the Youtube web player. As for tools, I just use youtube-dl directly from the Linux terminal. It's the pro's choice. You shouldn't convert to MP3. That just further mangles what is already a pretty highly compressed audio stream. You can just play the unmodified MP4-files as is, or if this is a problem, at least rip to uncompressed WAVs instead to retain the original quality.
Most of the stuff I download, the artists are dead so I don't think they're going to care either way. Some artists that are still alive also tell me to get their stuff however I can because the record companies screw them over, so I'm cool with that too. I think most bands make money from touring and merchandise now anyway, or so a local band told me anyway. They said they 100% expect a cd to copied and passed between friends and it's not a concern, cause they sell shirts and can coozies instead.
I've never used a terrabyte in my life lol. Maybe on games but not like it terms of personal storage. I know I'm getting close on my 200gb Omega hardrive. If was to put all my music from my phone I downloaded in there it would probably be too much though.
I find the comments on YouTube music videos to be a great read! They're always so positive about the music. And when you hit some old videos from the 60s, like say Sounds of Silence, the comments on how good they sound compared to most music today is heartening. Nice to know that other generations are appreciating the same music we did when we were young! I don't bother to download from YouTube as I can watch them again anytime online.
