There are some bills that I have consistently paid late, always. It's a bad habit but I always wait until the last minute to pay. This time I waited longer than I ever have before and it was because I thought I was 4 months late, but I was really only a month late. I was thinking I was going to have to pay 2x more than I had to. I actually could have paid for just one month and let this month's payment go a bit later but I paid for 2 months, happily. I think I'm going to try to start paying my bills on time though. Another part of that is having a regular income, which I hadn't before. I had no desire to have money coming in on specific parts of the month before. I would work and pick up new jobs when I wanted to work or needed money, but for a few months now, or maybe most of this year, I've gotten to where I want to be ahead. It's not that I didn't care before, it's just that I didn't really make the effort to have things set up in a more dependable way before. I didn't realize how easy it would be to just go after jobs with regular payment schedules and longer contracts. I also had little desire to buy things, but now I am very much into investing and I have a lot of things I want to spend my money on, as well as a lot I want to save for a couple of bigger purchases next year. I think it's slightly unfortunate that I didn't learn this earlier, but I have a lot of satisfaction right now, about the fact that my bills are paid.
I always pay my bills on time, and when I pay my credit card bill, I always pay more than the minimum required amount as to not be killed by interest. To me, that is the only smart way to do it. But yeah, not paying bills when they're due only screws you over in the long run.
I always pay the important bills on time - rent, anything that shows up on my credit. Sometimes I pay utilities late just because I'm scatterbrained and I know there is no real penalty if I'm a few days late.
The bill I pay late has no penalties either. It hasn't screwed me up in any kind of way. I always paid extra on my credit card but I only ever had one and haven't used it in tons of years.
I feel a sense of satisfaction and peace when all my bills are paid. I really love when I can pay something completely off like student loans or a credit card. I did a little dance and wanted to have a party when I sent in my last student loan payment in.
I plan on paying my loans off next year. I'm definitely going to celebrate, by getting another loan. LOL.
I have the bad habit of paying bills too late. It has probably cost me 1000's of Euros over the years because of extra costs.
Yikes, bird! The only time I didn't pay important bills on time were the times when I really couldn't afford to. That was a pretty brief period of time, luckily, but it did end in a couple of my bank accounts being cut off. I've made an art out of paying late but not too late over the past couple of years.
We pay our bills on time or early. My banker showed me my credit report once. Never been late on my house payment. Every car, equipment, etc loan I've ever had shows 36, 48 or 60 payments in a row on time....which I know must be slightly off because When I was 18 or 19 I got a couple of months behind on my car payment once but maybe that loan has fallen off my credit by now? I don't know. Anyway, getting in the habit of paying things on time will pay off later. Not only do you never pay late fees but you get pretty stellar credit. As a result, I don't jump through hoops to get financed for something or pay high interest. If I decide tomorrow that I want to buy a new car....I'll make a phone call and I can be driving the car home in the time it takes them to type up the paperwork.
I rob Peter to pay Paul on time, but never repay Peter on time, not like hes going to cut my ear off or anything..
I pay proper bills on time. Once I had a bill, and send the payment slip back with a cheque issued by my own bank. Well, I say bank. It actually read "issued by the Bank of Suck my Cock International", payee "Mr Fat Prick". Complete with *very* professional logos etc. It seemed to have the desired effect. I never received a late payment reminder. Waddingtons Monopoly money has a similar effect.:2thumbsup:
I hate spending money. The thought of paying bills late and owing even more money makes my inner cheapskate cringe.
arty: Good for you! I can't wait to have all of mine paid off. Still got a fair way to go, but now I am back overseas and hoping to have it all paid off within 18 months.
Hello, I usually throw incoming bills on a heap on a table. I looks like I don't pay much attention to financial stuff, but I'm a geek , I can be pedantic . I always pay bills in time, at the last possible moment. It really doesn't earn namable interest that way, but it's a good feeling to think of the 0.0000000001 Euro that I have earned by not paying a week earlier . Regards Gyro
Hello, it takes some time for the money to arrive at the other account. Banks want to have their share, too, I guess . Regards Gyro
I pay my bills on time or early each month. I pay my credit card balance off each month that I use the card. Like Ruby I get a sense of satisfaction and peace when everything is paid off.
