old ads from 2006 show they marketed it as 4 wheel drive...also it should have an emblem on the hatch saying 4wd but technically they only had AWD systems..which are actually better than 4wd in most cases...especially if they have a traction control ABS system
i think "full-time 4 wheel drive" is basically the same as AWD, except that full-time 4WD has a "4 low" option. so there must be some button on my car or something that selects 4-low to deliver more torque to each wheel. http://www.rubicon-trail.com/4WD101/difference_4WD_awd.html my car has 4WD emblem on the back hatch. not AWD. that's what originally caused me to be like "whaaa?" because i had thought it was AWD.
most mechanics will use the transfer case type as a way to separate awd vs. 4wd awd will have a 3rd differential (or viscous coupling) in the transfer case to allow use on pavement 4wd will not have a center diff in transfer case and is not safe for use on pavement
yeah "full time 4WD" has a center differential http://www.4x4abc.com/4WD101/abc5.html but i think most people would agree with you and call it all wheel drive. since it can't go out of 4WD..it's pretty much AWD.
