I encounter "hippies", "rainbows" and the like alot but some of them have me shaking my head. How can some people go on and on about all the spiritual stuff in the world, about peace, love and harmony but when it comes down to the very basic principals of karma they do not get it or choose to ignore it. Why do some hippies go on and on about Buddah or the harre krishnas, or the celestine prophesies and then sit in your basement smoking your pot and eating your food until you kick em out for not doing a lick of work since they arrived. They take take take but don't give. The only way they give is passing on the spiritual knowledge of past great leaders, and they sound like they know what their talking about, but it's just babble if your actions don't speak higher than your words, or even back them up! They talk of the man and of babylon and the evils of the world but sit on the corner asking for free handouts from the same society they so loathe. Does this make any freakin sense? Am I missing the POINT here? Or are these people good for nothing BOTTOM FEEDERS with their heads up their own asses. Yes maybe you got a bad break and you need alittle help to get back up. But I see so many people LIVE this way. As SPONGES, soaking up what they can around them. Taking my precious energy and resources. So what are your thoughts. Children of the rainbow or good for nothing bums (and this does not refer to all rainbows or hippies, just a select few and I'm sure you all know the type I'm talking about)
don't go by the clothes missy, read the vibes... you can also read the akashic record which contains the spirit journey of all souls
From my experience at being a kid, camping, playing sports, working, being a hippie---whatever--there are those who just don't contribute.Watch, for example"Survivor for a while. There are some who talk about working so hard and contributing, but obviously don't.I'm not sure if they really believe what they are saying, but as you said, actions speak louder than words. This also applies to the spiritual side of life--thus--hypocrites.Regarding sponges,I do think there are those that just can't handle the money--resposibility system as it's set up.The bottom feeders to me are the pricks who steal peoples shit and don't intend to help anyone but themselves.
I think I've heard of that before but am not quite sure. Your speaking of a religious/spiritual belief in an actual record? And if such record actually exists where might I find it? Through meditation?
About the last line. The rainbow that inspired this post from me started as, I think, though I have only known him for a year so can only guess... as a sponge but then turned (or already was) into a theif. Is it because he ran out of things to sponge and just didn't have the will power to improve himself. Or his whole philosphy of sponging led him to believe, in the first place, he was entitled to all things already and didn't have to work for them I don't have hard proof he's a theif but considerable evidence. I guess I may never know. But I am trying to broaden my awareness of this life style. I have lived it but only until I could support myself. It was temporary and a lesson in life, not a lifestyle. So when is acting like that okay? Or is it all just bullshit
Just to let you know, this is not a new problem. I well remember people back in the sixties and early seventies who acted exactly the same way as what crystal is describing. No matter what "group" of people you belong to or associate with, there are always those who learn just enough to pass as one of that group, but who are really there for the free ride and to use people. Their karma will get them in the end. The main thing to realize is that the vast majority of hippies, rainbows, etc. are NOT like that; but there are always a few people that give all the others a bad name by their actions and by being more visible because of these actions.
Haha, you got your rainbow warriors, and you drainbow bums, but whatever, you gotta love em, for who they are, family is family wether they frustrate you or not. And who knows, maybe if you give a drainbow somw love, they will eventually get off their phat asses and give back.
Do you think, Mouse, it's the same ratio, same degree. Or just same story another day. I've gone to festivals after I've handed out everything that I had to those in "need", broke as can be (well once... I got persuaded to say the least) and the most wonderful kind loving STRANGERS in the world take me in so I'm at ease and in good care. So I've definitely been down and in need and relied on people before. But I see these folks, alot, that just LIVE like that. Always on the road, always finding a ride, always getting hooked up with free drugs, using one person to the next. It's like they're getting paid for their charms. Kinda like... well gold diggers I guess. I feel horrible if I take and take, even if it's just circumstances at the momment. I still feel an obligation to GIVE even if it's not really possible. So I guess I'm concluding, so far, these "few" people are just full of shit. I thought maybe, just maybe, I was missing the point. But now I'm thinking I was right all along. These people are not who they say
wen im on the road, i spange from time to time...i accept all the people that offer me free smokes...wen i go to festivals i usually cant even afford to get in, so i volounteer and get in that way...i dont think ive asked for anything more than once or twice at a festival but people love to share...of course, wen im not travelling, or am taking a break i hold my own, i get a job, and if ive got 21 dollars in my pocket, and theres a guy spanging on the street, im willing to bet i leave with a dollar in my pocket(and not cus he had to steal it, because i offered)....not that i think i deserve anything for wat ive shared, but i believe in the principal of sharing, which i think is the core of being a "hippy"...
I really don't know if the percentages today are similar to "back when" or not. I do know, that at least where I was (Oregon, mostly Eugene area), the percentage of the "bad" people was really quite small, it is just they they tend to draw more attention with their bad actions. No matter what the situation, it seems like a few people who do something undesirable, tend to affect peoples' impressions of an entire group. The best thing to do is look for the good in people, and try not to let the bad get to you too much. (Easy to say, not always easy to do.)
There sometimes is thin line between a hippy and a burnout. Even Thinner between a burnout and a sponge. Thinnest between a sponge and a thief. I think we should give to all, because karma does the same. But know when to cut someone off and be a swift hand of karma yourself.
I am amazed how you seem to have failed to realize these kind of people are doing you a favor in many ways. 1) They force you to analyze and try to understand your own reactions to this 2) They may show you that your giving might not be free of expectations of getting something back 3) They form a nice challenge for you so your soul may evolve and develop itself. Without people who frustrate you, there could not be evolution of spirit. Etc.. Think about it - it's all part of a Cosmic Plan .. and also your own life-plan. They are the brothers and / or sisters who have agreed with your request to annoy them so you may learn more of life... These agreements are made before incarnation. - Vortac
I think that the way it works, is that some people are just downright lazy. They adopt the hippie lifestyle, because they want to smoke pot all day. The bottom line is, that they were most likely a sponge first, and became a hippie. Hippies are usually a bit more loveable than strung out junkies living on the street corner, so it seemed like a better fit for them. I have met people like this, too. One guy I used to work with would always talk about the Dead and Pink Floyd and doing drugs... But he didn't care about making the world a better place, and spreading love was the least of his worries. He was solely concerned about getting stoned, and getting laid. He talked very derogatorilly about women, and desperately seaked the approval of others, because he was insecure. I like the Theme From The Bottom though... That's a good Phish song. (but then again, there aren't really any bad ones...). Sorry, saying bottom feeder made me think of that...
Hahaha- no kidding! It is much the same now as it was then... Precious few who espouse the hippie culture actually practice its principles. It's little more than a label people want to identify themselves with because they think it has become fashionable. Give most four or five years and they will have moved on to the next "big thing".
Yeah, every hippie girl rejected me, so where's the "free love" at? I had GHETTO chicks LIKE me! If you want to preach 'free love', then you practice what you preach, otherwise, you just say, "yes, I'm just a non-practicing hippie" akin to the vast amounts [majority] of Christians that say they're Christian, yet only practice when it suits them, or cherry pick the scripture.
You have most eloquently expressed the major issue I have with so-called devout Christians- and yes there is a parallel with the neo-hippie movement. The truest litmus test of the strength of one's beliefs- award them a huge sum of money and see if they behave within the constraints of their sworn creed. Most will show true colors that clash with what they profess to be.
I don't think it's very 'loving' to categorise and divide people into 'lovable' and 'non-lovable'. If SUN did that, we would probably all live in darkness on this planet. - Vortac
