Or is it a turn off? I know a fair few folks (excuse the alliteration) who find intelligence to be a complete turn off. I cannot fathom that for the life of me. It seems to me that smarter people have deeper thoughts, therefore they make better conversationalists. People with a lower intellect usually talk about shallower things. Then again I suppose everyone fancies themself an intellectual; aside from those who think brains are a burden.
There is an enormous gap between pseudo-intellectuals and intellectuals. Pseudo-intellectuals are usually the ones who present themselves as intellectuals. Therefore... this is a trick question.
There are different types of intellectuals. There are the people who think they're intellectual because of the books they've read or the colleges they've attended. Then there are people who were born that way. I consider the latter to be the real intellectuals, and many people would not think of them as such because they often don't hold the same status as the college-educated intellectual, who says all the right things and gets far ahead because of everything that's been downloaded into them in order to "succeed" in the modern world.
Smart is smart wither it came from a book or the person was born with smarts. Wanting to learn should never be looked down on.
Are you implying that I'm a pseudo-intellectual? "Intellectual" is just another idiotic label in a sea of idiotic labels. There is no such thing as an "intellectual". A person who knows alot about car engines can be much more useful and much more interesting than a person who knows a lot about philosophy and thinks deeeeeep thoughts all day long. This world is so circumstantial that categorizing people by something so bloody trivial as "intellectual" is silly. No person on this earth is better at life than any other person. People have different skills, different capacities, different opportunities to develope those skills, etc, etc, etc. Today's "intellectual" is just a trend of our times... go back a couple of thousand years....... the guy with the sharpest spear, the biggest cows, or the largest garden was considered the "best". C'est la vie.
That knowledge usually leads people to write such books as "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintanance"
I'd certainly go out of way to buy Pirsig a beer. Bubba the halfwitted small engine repairman? Eh, not so far out of my way. Am I a snob? Yes, I am. Will I lose sleep over it? No, I won't. Is it annoying when people answer their own questions? Yes, it is.
I like intellects a lot, yes...as long as they aren't pretentious, snobby, arrogant know-it-alls. I very much find intelligence to be a turn-on. Eh, to be honest, though, I'm more into what one would call "nerds."
you mean men don't like em dumb and blonde? fuck now i gotta like go read some like..books...fuck and yes intellectuals are sexy, i like arrogant men that can back up their arrogance
To me, there is nothing more sexy than a guy that is really good at physics, or atleast math. I cant resist a guy who knows all them Newton laws. And if he knows the Josphsons effect, I might as well marry him immediately...
the sexyist woman i ever met, she probably never guessed i felt that way, went on to become a physics proffessor in some college in florida. we were both living in oregon at the same time and i met her in this science fiction society we both belonged to. =^^= .../\...
