Do you ever smile at random people on the street?

I've started doing this more often. it might be a little creepy for some, but it feels good to make eye contact with a stranger. Saying Hi to random people is also ok...you ever do this or am i the only nutter?
I love it when i try to make eye contact and the person turns away instantly, it's like people are afraid of being looked at...but why?

I try to put on a fake little smile whenever I'm out in public... if i'm not smiling I tend to look like I'm about to start stabbing people.

as for looking away, well, in our society it's rude to stare. It's not that we're afraid to look at someone, it's that it's quite rude by society's standards to be staring at someone, particularly someone you don't know. It's also awkward and uncomfortable when someone you don't know is staring at you, at least for me it is (I don't mean glancing occasionally, I mean staring)

 

i always smile at people on the street. .. or the ones who are giving me dirty looks, i smile and start skipping or give them a peace sign or something. just cause i think its funny i'm getting dirty looks for being a "damn hippie" haha

most people dont look away when i smile though.. they smile back.

 

Usually when I'm walking on the street by myself, I'm just listening to music and I'm too deep inside my own head to notice what's happening around me. But I do like smiling at random people. Not like staring at them but like.. just giving them a quick smile.

 

haha, i smile at random people all the time. its fun. i also try and make them laugh someitmes or i try to say stupid things about something they have on them...like if they are carrying lunch, i'll say "nice take out lunch you got there, what is it?" or if they have water, i 'll say "that wouldn't happen to be vodka, now would it?"

 

I smile at everyone, When I was younger I had a little snoopy poster that had a picture of snoopy with a big smile on his face. The caption read "Smile, it'll make people wonder what you've been up to".

 

Oh yeah. I smile at them-wave at them and talk to as many strangers as possible. EVERY person in my life now was once a STRANGER!

Here in the south that's common.

 

If I make eye contact with a stranger I smile, though depending on my mood, it might come off as being half assed

 

No i sometimes do that too. It feels nice when they smile back

 

I usually have a smile on my face, so I end up smiling at strangers all the time. It's always great when they smile back.

Actually once I had the big nasty cut thingie on my upper lip, really bloody, so when I was walking down a street to go to the doc to get the stiches out, everybody was looking at me, but the second I looked at them they looked down, it was really weird And kinda pathetic... We humans are strange creatures

 

i always smile or say hi when i walk by someone and they make eye contact with me. that's pretty much the norm where i live. it's also common to be sitting at a bus stop or somesuch place and have someone just start talking to you like you're old friends and they're picking up the conversation where we left off yesterday. i like it.

 

people around here arent really that friendly. sometimes ill be walking down the streeet and me and my fellow passer by will be like "hI WASSSUP GREAT DAY MATE HAVE FUN WHEREVER YOURE GOIN"

other times people wont even look up as if i have lazer eyes or something. Then sometimes people scare me off and im the one afraid to make eye contact.
