Some 60% of all companies have been hacked, while a serious string of security flaws was discovered on Intel chips over the last two years. The whole house of cards is about to come tumbling down, but Microsoft and Intel have plans for introducing an AI driven distributed computing platform sometime in the next year or two. Their AI eliminates bugs and long downloads, by deciding for itself how to run any programs, and exactly how they will manage security remains to be seen, but its already possible to buy a processor that is supposedly uncrackable by any classical computer. With security matters, you get the security you can afford and the pentagon can afford quantum encryption, but we get the wimpy crap that keeps everybody but the corporations out of your business.
I worked on a project at Heathrow for 12 years and you would not believe the fun I had. Wearing a security badge, customers were asking me unbelievable questions, assuming that I was airline staff, rather than an engineer. One funny incident was seeing an overweight woman running the wrong way along a travelator. She fell over as she reached the end and ended up back where she started. On another occasion a rich Arab lady broke down crying and told me that she had been kidnapped and all her luggage stolen. She refused to believe that she was in London, telling me that she had landed at Manchester. It took me more than an hour to calm her down and explain that international flights land at Heathrow, so she needed to use the shuttle to Manchester, where she would be reunited with her luggage. Perhaps the funniest of all was the smart business guy who asked me for directions to his departure gate. When I told him straight ahead, third gate on your left, he looked at me with a puzzled expression and asked "which side is left". Their is a saying among airline staff, that passengers pack their brains in their luggage. If you spent a day airside at Heathrow, you would know exactly what they mean. On countless occasions people asked me what time they were due to land, without even telling me where they were going. Even if they had told me, with an aircraft taking off every 40 seconds at peak times, how on earth did they expect me to know when they were due to land.
When charging a device from a public outlet, you should use a power-only cable, not a regular data cable. A power-only cable does not have conductors for data, so the charger cannot steal your data.
Stranded in airports was common for me for a couple years. I live and travel in snow zones and fog zones. Overnight at Denver International, or even arriving off the “last bus” before 6 am (which is about 2:45 am) leads to some fascinating people watching. Trustifarians, ski bums coming in, now the pot tourists, all checked the luggage with their sense. But it’s the business-usually-guys, from a coast, who are so lost. Three terminals and two security options. When Frontier was local, they had sway and money enough for their own security gate. Without fail, some business travelers wind up on a train to the wrong place. And then yell at employees of anything, from airline to bookstore, as if it’s their fault. I once saw someone screaming at a massage therapist about a gate reassignment. Just get back on the train, dude. Some folks might deserve a bit of hacking to realign priorities. as to the video, I use the ac adapter. Usually simply because I carry it in my pocket, and it seems rude to use the USB slots when I can use ac.
Looking up @KathyL ’s suggestion, I found this: https://www.cultofmac.com/632796/how-and-why-to-make-your-own-power-only-usb-cable/ it’s worth reading just for the lead and first few paragraphs.
I use a USB Condom whenever I charge on a public charger SyncStop, USB Condoms - Protect your mobile phone from accidental syncing and malware!
i don't think i've ever seen an airport charger. i did have to charge my phone at an airport once, but i just plugged it into the wall outlet.
Yeah I don't use them. Not for security reasons but because if I have to use one it kind of forced me to be around people I don't want to be around.
Android OS 7.x and higher default to charge only by default with usb data cord. You have to manually click option for data. This was done to prevent data hijacking. FYI, leave your wifi on during vacations or special events, to back your photos up at home to the cloud, in case your screen dies. Otherwise you cant get your photos from a usb cable unless you pay for screen replacement. No screen, means you can't successfully see where to make the couple menu clicks from home screen to enable data. This saved me money, & important event photos, as warranties just give you a different refurbished phone. Then you can wipe the phone remotely. Replacement screens are not cheap for curved phones.
