    So do you?

For my part no matter what time of the year it is I want the living Room/Kitchen Diner and bathroom to be 22c minimum, though we don’t heat the bedrooms at all.
Wifey and I never quarrel about the cost of our gas central heating being on, but my Wife prefers those places mentioned to be 20c max instead of 20c.

Below is a 4 day old news report about this situation, but please express your thoughts on this.

    .......

Warnings as central heating argument R rate rises above 1

The Government warned of tougher restrictions today as it emerged the R rate for family central heating arguments had risen above 1.

As the weather turned, the number of couples rowing about turning up the heating has been rising at worrying levels.

Now the R number is around 1.2, meaning another couple argues for each thermostat incident recorded.

“We may be forced to order people to wear a jumper to prevent further cross words,” a Government energy minister said.

It’s thought this year’s central heating problem is made worse by the sudden change in the weather. Britain has gone from glorious sunshine and high temperatures to driving rain, gales and even snow almost overnight.

Lorraine Fisher, 34, a woman, said: “It’s far too chilly, and I can’t get warm. I refuse to wear an uncomfortable, thick jumper or moderate trouser wear, so I like to turn up the thermostat until the heating clicks into gear.”

But partner Steve Walshe added: “It’s a ridiculous waste of money. We’re still in September, for goodness sake. The house is like an oven.”

The Government may have to keep control measures in place until a vaccine is in place to bring the R number of infections down.

“There are tests going on to develop a fingerprint recognition device for thermostats so that only the man of the house can use them.

    ------

I want to buy that device when it comes out!

There is no point to be made in arguing. Preferences are preferences - it isn't a matter of right or wrong. We keep the heat and A/C in the middle, so it's equally comfortable/uncomfortable for everyone.

This is very easy to achieve. You each state your preferred temperatures, and set it for the mid-point between them. Like a budget meeting at work, it requires honesty, but even if everyone exaggerates seeking advantage, you still end up with about the same mid-point.

The ideal setting is when the person who likes it cool would like it to be a bit cooler, and the person who likes it warm would like it to be a bit warmer. If one of us is wearing a sweater, and the other a t-shirt, we know we've got it right.

If one of us is nude, and the other comes to the table for a meal wrapped in a blanket, then we probably weren't meant to live together. That hasn't happened. The range of temperature comfort among humans isn't that broad, except at the extremes, and probability and bell-shaped distributions indicates the statistical unlikelihood of such a pairing.

I get your point there Nub.
If I have the setting on 22c which is my preference but Wifey is saying it is too hot, I put a jumper on and turn the heating down to her prefered 20c.
This is because I always try work on the premise that...

    It's an age old argument.

My parents would also do that!

I am more concerned with air conditioning costs here. It was excessively hot, and still is here in La Paz. Temps get down to just 76 or 78 F at night, over 100 in the daytime.

This heat will drag on until mid-November.

We get billed bi-monthly, last time it was a bit pricey, I am not looking forward to the bill for the last two months, it is probably out in the post box right now waiting. They give you just ten days to pay here... and then they remove your power meter. When they do that it takes a week to reconnect, if not longer!

So I keep the temp at 80 F in the day time, but at night I prefer 76 F for sleeping. But I turn off the air in the rest of the house overnight, and keep it off in the bedrooms daytime so not all the units are running at once. That would be crazy! We have 5 of those mini-split inverters...efficient, and mostly very quiet. They work much better than any central air system I had in the US.

Power bill in summer in California was over $300 US monthly, here in Mexico, about $100 monthly in the summer. In winter it goes down to about $25 a month for power :)

No but I do prank her by turning it off (when she has turned it on) on my phone when she's home and I'm at work!

been too long since i've had anyone over, or any place really to have them over to, that i've kind of mostly forgotten.
i don't mess with things as a way to mess with people if that was the question.
i'm totally not into messing with people nor understanding the humor some claim to find in doing so.
people who find me boring because i'm not i don't need.
i do love living by myself and not having to worry about other people's strangenessess inside of where i live.
