I am personally against breeding dogs because all of the other poor dogs, cats, etc. out there in pounds and puppy-mills are being abused, neglected, homeless, and many euthanized. I dont buy dogs from petstores or breeders. All of my dogs & cats have come from pounds or strays. My mom wanted to breed our 2 beagles. I flat out told her no because of the pound puppies being homeless and many other animals that are strays. It breaks my heart. I have bought some guinea pigs from a petstore but that is because I can't find them anywhere else where they are naturally raised or whatnot...want to direct me somewhere for that for future reference? And does anyone agree/disagree about the dog & cat thing? I just want to hear your opinion.

    Thanks ~ Peace

Im completely against the breeding of the majority of domesticated animals...cats, dogs, rabbits etc...there are FAR too many tortured, unwatned, in shelters or abused etc, why make the problem worse? Spay and neuter!

Youre really lucky to have beagles by the way! I cant wait until we can rescue a beagle/beagle type:)

Peacechicka, petfinder.com has ALL sorts of animals, and you should be able to find guineas there too. :) Also, an internet search of cavy rescues should help. A lot of rabbit rescues also take in guineas.

I strongly support animal rescue and adoption. Both of my dogs, my rabbit and my ratties are all rescues. I support spaying and neutering as well.

I don't agree with irresponsible breeding (puppy mills, other backard breeding), like the dogs you find in pet stores. I am totally repulsed by designer dogs and the "teacup" and "applehead" craze. Yay for breeding runts with runts with runts until we get a dog so small it can't even function, and so inbred it can't even see straight. This is breeding solely for profit, and is wrong.

However, there are people who breed dogs to improve health and temperment. They are dedicated, lovers of their breed who want to better it and make it more sound. in theory, these are the "show" breeders, whose dogs are seen at kennel club events, etc. Compared to those who want to SOLELY make profit, these breeders are more ethical and responsible.

I will say that all things considering, any domestic animal breeding can be looked at as "irresponsible" giving thought to the thousands that need homes. However, there is a difference between irresponsible breeding and responsible breeding. That is all I wanted to point out.

I PERSONALLY am against breeding. There. :)

Ohhhhh wow. PIGGIES!!! I do love the little wheekers :) DO check out petfinder, PLEASE?!? Every time I peek, there are nearly 1000 piggies who need a home. All ages & all types.

Piggies are hit-and-miss at our local shelters too... there are TONS to choose from 2-3 months after Christmas & Easter each year though! Mark your calendar :)

There's another site that occasionally has piggies that need a new home too - several shelters & rescues will post there when a hoarder's pets are confiscated or they're just plain overrun. Please also check out the forums at http://www.guineapigcages.com
    love,
    mom

I disagree with breeding dogs in any setting, since even the most prudent breeder promotes the chance of instilling the most of suffering causing genes to a poor dog due to their own human and unknowing personal predilections.

I have volunteered at animal shelters for many years and have come to believe that we humans should leave dog genetics to a higher power, period, rather than those of the Queen Victoria era who commonly replace so-called dog breeding for a lack of human intimacy in their lacking existence. Keep in mind, all dog breeds which have only existed in the past 150 years have multiple genetic defects due to their ignorant human breeders and I for one believe that the family/species of canis familiaris would be far better off if we simply left their breeding to the dogs and only adopted them only out of animal shelters, rather than from nazi type breeders or puppy mills.

At work the other day we had a customer come in and he had a beautiful German shep witch he told me he paid $3000 for. He also said that the father of that dog had sold for $250,000.
