If so why are they vegitarians. Cows don't eat meat. Chicken isn't a meat it's poltry but vegitarians are against that. Why is fish different. (I think it's because people don't see fish as living. What do you think?

There are different classifications for vegetarianism...vegetarianism is actually an umbrella term.

Lacto-ovo vegetarian - eats eggs and dairy products

Lacto vegetarian - doesn't eat eggs, but does eat dairy products

Pesco vegetarian - doesn't eat meat, pork or poulty, but they do eat fish

Several different others...but those are the main three kinds of vegetarianism...

Then vegans do not eat any animal products, including eggs and dairy.

Because some people argue that fish don't have a brain, therefore, they can't possibly think or feel anything.

Somebody wrote that fish is ok but chicken isn't because chicken has intellegence and fish doesn't realize it's food. What a crock. Why do fish wiggle off the hook if they don't know that it's a bad thing?

Ooops I read the other thing in wikipedia and then just saw yours after I finished sending it. Fish feel pain. I didn't eat crabs as a child because I saw my aunt drop them in scalding beer and one jumped out and tried to run away but he broke his leg in the fall and he was inside. I think he knew and I know he felt pain.

I know that when I would walk by a fish tank they seemed to have feelings to me. Let me tell you what happened and you can tell me what you think. I was in a local Wal-Mart and I happened on the tropical fish section. I like to visit fish because I love animals. There were two goldfish (I think) in a tank near the top. One was obviously dead or doing the best imitation in the world and the other one was either tryng to push it back to the surface. It almost looked like the second fish was trying to give the first one cpr. It was so sad because i never knew people thought fish had no feelings. It would have broken yoour heart to see the second fish pushing on the first one trying to push him to the top for some air. I almost started to cry.

then how come if you have a hand full of fish food at the fish pond at disney land and you stick your hand in there.. all the fish swarm your hand and go nuts?

Because most people are so apathetic...they just eat it because it's "good".

I think the way our food is packaged nowadays makes it easy to think that it never was a living thing...or a lot of people just don't WANT to think of it as a living thing.

I can't. Like I said when I saw the poor crab trying to escape it broke my heart. I'm not a lobster fan either. I do like shell fish and cab legs. I guess I just believe in my mind that some other process is going on and not the killing of it. (At least I don't want to know about the killing.) I'd weigh absolute zero if I had to to kill something to eat it. Probablly even a tomato.
