How about supplements like echinacea and ginseng? Do they work? Do you get sick less and have more energy?

    yes.

    Echincea is great.
Echincea with golden seal is fantastic for colds.
Take it whenever you start to feel a cold coming, it should give your immune system a good boost to prevent it.

Ginseng gives you quite a bit of energy.
I would take ginseng over coffee for an energy boost. just not as a long term energy booster.

    Herbalism rocks!
Nettle's for immune system though. Not outta your backyard though, stingy! They have to be dried or cooked to take the sting away.

Herbs do work but they work better if you clean up your diet first since that's where most problems start. Get rid of the junk and processed foods and excess fats, animal protein, salt, sugar, refined starches and then try the herbs.

Yeah, they both work. The best kind of ginseng is siberian ginseng though not the american or panex.

My herbal book says ginseng should not be taken by women. Why I'm not sure but I stay away from large dosages of it to be careful.

    From Healing Herbal Remedies

American Ginseng is most appropriate for women to use before menopause, Asian and Siberian ginseng are most appropriate for men. Asian genseng contains precurors of testosterone but it is okay for women to use for short periods during convalescence, and is a menopausal herb. the equivalent chinese herb for women is dong quai .

B/c asian genseng may increase estrogen levels in women, it is usually not an appropriate remedy for women until menopause. Asian genseng is not appropriate for children.

Siberian genseng is a tonic for men and is not recommended to after menopause, except during breif periods of convalescence.

So Dong Quai yes for women. other gensengs more of a no but great for men.

Echinacea always works for me.. I take it if I'm around someone with a cold. I've heard different things work for different people though, like I think goldenseal works for some people rather than echinacea.
