Do they random drug-test teachers?

I may be looking at becomming some type of teacher as a job. Does anyone here know if they do random drug tests on teachers, or is it primarily upon the students. I could've sworn that i read somewhere that teachers were being tested randomly- but i couldn't find much on google. Does anyone know any more about this? Thanx

I would assume it'd be similar to other jobs where they drug test you - they have to inform you that they're gonna do it... I would think it varies depending on where you live and how strict the area is about it.

For instance, in NZ, I don't think they'd drug test teachers. But from what I've heard/read about the USA, drug testing is a lot more common.

 

Over here in WA they don't. I've asked several teachers and they all said no. If all else fails, buy a whizzinator!

 

You might have to pass a test to get the job, but I don't think they would start random tests unless there was a problem. I am not a reliable source, but testing teachers wouldn't make sense to me. Unless there was a problem that warrented a test,I doubt it would be common practice.

 

It depends on whether you are working for a public or private school and if you are working for most public schools its going to depend on state law. I dont think that many states require public school teachers to take urine analysises though because just recently Hawaii tried to require teachers to be tested and it made the media... so I'm guessing it is something that is not all that common.

 

Shaman is correct. Depends on where you live. Most private schools do, becuase they're either for rich kids, or Christians. Public schools I know in Canada do not, infact they don't test cops for drugs unless they have reason to believe he's on it. The only government job I've ever had was Park Ranger for a summer.... no tests.

 

In my experience here in the States, private schools test less than public schools. I coach at a very exclusive and one of the most expensive schools in colorado. Their policy is that you aren't on drugs when coaching/teaching. There is not an initial drug test, whereas the public schools test prior to hiring

i think they just test you when you apply, there'd be no reason for them to unless you have to sign some extreme morality clause or whatever you call it

at least over here by philly i think they do that
