I don't want to sound like a traitor, but feminists don't sound like they are really fighting for equality most of the time. You only seem to fight for "equality" when it benefits you. But you don't say anything about laws that give all the power to the women, and none to the men.

For example the law to not hit women. That shouldn't be a law. That should just be a moral code that someone lives by. I've seen women beat the hell out of their boyfriends, because they know the guy won't hit back. If he does, he will go to jail. Now I'm no she-hulk, but if I was to hit a guy, I think he should have full right to hit me back. Granted he should morally decide not to. But that should be his choice to make. Not the laws. The law should only get involved if either side takes it too far, and ends up beating the other person into a bloody mess.

There are other laws similar to that one, but I think you get the point.

I'm not a feminist, but if a girl beats up a guy, he'll have a maybe a few bruises.
A guys beats up a girl, and she's probably on the brink of death.
personally I don't think anybody should be hitting anybody, but the law against guys hitting women is a wonderful law. if you've ever been in a domestic abuse situation, you'd agree.

Maybe your right and I just used a bad example. I've never actually been hit by a guy before.

I think you are on to something but this is a bad example.

I do agree that a man should never hit a woman, and if a guy does he's not much of a man.... but I'm from a long forgotten generation where such things were obvious and held true. As far as laws go there should be laws (I think there are called Assault and Battery) that effect either sex, but if a guy gets beat severely buy a girl he would rarely report it. On the other hand some women would report a fall down a flight of stairs as abuse because they can get away with it (Please note I said SOME women...... I'm not being sexist here, it has happened)

Outside of fighting though there are a lot of "feminist ideas" that I think have formed some reverse discrimination against men, yet the feminists still demand we hold the door open for them...... There can be equality without control, and there can still be respect.

Karen is sort of right, it's lost some meaning, but either way, I resent feminists.

Think about the word: FEMinist. If I said I was a masculinist, I'd be labeled a sexist pig. I believe in equality. I think if someone hits someone, it should be legally the same, no matter who they are. There are massive girls that could easily kill guys, there's small guys, there's all manner of transgender or similar people who don't even consider themselves their original gender.

Laws need to be gender blind. Using an example from this thread, if you beat someone to the brink of death, you need to be held accountable, no matter who you are, and if you sort of ruff them up, you should still be held accountable.

I also resent the feminist argument that "men are so much more whatever, have been for however long" or whatever..... If you want equality, it doesn't mean you want some sort of super status as redress for you fulfilling the biologically necessary role for you for all of history and pre-history. Equality means equality now for everyone, the sins of their ancestors being totally unrelated.

I quite resent that feminism has made it so far into legality. There are horrible abusive husbands and boyfriends, and wives and girlfriends. There's all manner of "battered womens shelters", but for the guy who never hits back and gets slapped around daily and can't leave cause he loses the kids and his house and the bitch reports him for rape and battery, there is no justice. It's flat out wrong. There needs to be legal help for PEOPLE who are victims of physical (or other) abuse, not WOMEN.

In media and elsewhere, it's pretty sick, if she feels like ruining his life all any woman needs to do to any man is accuse him of whatever, you can lose jobs, housing, everything, based on totally unsubstantiated claims. But women don't have to worry about it, everyone would say they're a woman and cant rape or beat anyone..

Thats what I was trying to say but I didn't know how to word it. But I don't resent feminism or hate it. I just think they shouldn't be so one sided.

Totally agree. I know quite a few women who call themselves feminists and have a really bad, disparaging attitude towards men. I have heard one of them say that women are stronger than men (psychologically) and that in a few decades we're going to rule the world. I find that kind of thinking repulsive and downright prejudiced. Consequently I don't want to categorize myself into a group that holds people who think like that. It's sad how easily pro-women can be turned to anti-men.
That said, I do want equal rights for everybody. In my case that means that my man has a right to the maternity leave and that I can apply for work in a predominantly male professional environment and actually get it if I'm better qualified for the job than everybody else.

A man that hits a woman is a piece of shit and a woman who hits a man is bat-shit crazy. Neither are exactly functioning members of society.

I've seen women arrested for domestic abuse before, so I don't think its correct to say there is a double standard in the law. At least where I live, at least with domestic abuse.

But I do see what you are saying. There are double standards in other areas of the law. A friend of mine had a baby with this woman. She left their son for months, ran off and got heavily into drugs, then suddenly came back and essentially kidnapped the son (except there was no custody agreement at the time so it was completely legal) and he's been fighting the courts for FIVE years now to gain custody. This woman is on drugs, this guy's friends and family have all submitted written statements to court testifying that she is an unfit mother, and the court still won't award him custody. The kid stays with the mother's parents most of the time while the mother goes and parties, but somehow the mother managed to get full custody so the father never gets to see their son.

So yeah, courts can be fucked up when it comes to gender.

that is such a pointless generalization

some girls are perfectly capable of seriously hurting a man

just as some men are pretty incapable of seriously hurting a woman.

no offense... but get your head out of your ass.

    feminists are pretty misguided

consider the title alone - 'FEMINist'

they identify themselves as people that clearly look out for one particular demographic above another.

i guess i never received the memo

explaining equality is a strictly female idiom.

When and where have men ever been an oppressed group? Groups don't organize politically to reduce their own power, so that others can become equal to them. The oppressed groups always have to fight for what they want. That's the way the world works.

By the way, I have met men in the past who strongly believed in working toward true equality of the sexes. They called themselves feminists. The label isn't reserved for women. It can be applied to anyone who opposes patriarchy, which has dominated the world for most of its history.

One thing we can probably agree on is the way that sexism has been functionally redefined in the workplace. It now means, more or less, anything that a whiny bitch doesn't like. That shit drives me crazy! These days, the most conservative and sensitive female in an office gets to set the behavior standards for everybody. I hate that as much as most men do.

I am a feminist, in the true meaning of the word which is supposed to be that men and women are equal, I think we are a long way off that though

I agree that the name feminism is counterintuitive and should be changed to something not intrinsically linked to either sex.

I am a feminist, I am also a stay at home mother. It is only when we stop judging women by masculine standards that the 'war' will be won.

Some believe that a woman being able to do a traditionally male job in society is some sort of feminist victory. I think the removal of respect and understanding of the importance of the traditionally female jobs in society is actually the very opposite of what feminism should be trying to achieve.

The fact is though, the destruction of the traditionally female roles in society is very beneficial to a capitalist society, it means we can get more people working long hours in a 'worthwhile' job, for a wage that they can spend on crap, whilst the children are cared for by underpaid also tax paying strangers and then we all end up working for 'the man' rather than caring for the community, looking after our youth and our elders and having time for each other and for family.

Humans want the most power and control they can get. It's not limited to what sex you are.
The laws are designed toward females. Men have no defense when they are blamed for domestic violence. Its usually always the man that goes to jail. The man always has the restraining order. No evidence is needed. Some jurisdictions the man is immediently ordered to domestic violence classes, at his cost, as a condition of bail. That's wrong and needs changed. Judges, lawyers, cops...the law is guided by a Minnesota study that set the standards about domestic violence law. Its partially based on men having higher earning power and women being the best choice for child custody.

Problem with feminism, where it is mainly for equality, there is always a group of people who get in the way and make the whole campaign seem like man haters etc. Same with anarchism.

As a feminist (although I call myself an equalist, which I think it should be re-named too because the word feminist is actually quite sexist lol) I tend to not associate myself with the extremists of the group as they put a bad name on everyone.

Feminism is for equality, of both genders, because that's just the way it should be. Being a feminist does not mean you want to work on a building site and do body building without getting judged or discriminated, I am a stay at home mother, I like wearing dresses and painting my nails and doing my hair and that doesn't make me any less than someone who enjoys wearing baggy clothes and doing strong physical activity. And thats the point really, no matter how feminine/masculine you are, no matter what gender, age, race, sexuality you are, you are capable and have the rights to do exactly the same without being viewed as less or more than someone else.

Everyone should be equal without discrimination of any kind, after all we are all just the same, pieces of jelly with a brain.
