Given the recent report on CIA torture has highlighted the subject once more could it be said that many Americans accept torture, seeing that this keeps happening?

I mean we had the US training for torturers at the School of the Americas [1945-2000] the ongoing brutality of US prisons that many equate to torture and the survey back in 2005 that suggested that nearly half of American [43%] would condone the torture of suspected terrorist.

Are Americans shocked by such revelations and want to stop torture from happening or do many just shrug their shoulders?

What power do people have to stop a portion of the government that operates in secret and above the law from doing illegal things? The CIA conducts criminal activities of all sorts all the time and has been getting away with it for years. Torture is just one of those things.

But are Americans "shocked" about it? Probably not since most people, regardless of if they're American or not, have been aware of this going on for at least a decade. So why would it be shocking to anyone who hasn't been living under a rock for 10 years?

Many Brits have bad teeth, so does this mean the general British public frowns upon oral hygiene?

So you do think many Americans many just shrug their shoulders rather than wanting to change things?

Sorry the thing about the British having bad teeth is a bit of a myth - A study performed by OECD, an international economic organization, on the state of dental hygiene in developed countries has concluded that the British have the very best teeth in the entire world, with an average of just 0.6 of a tooth decaying per citizen”

Unfortunately many in the U.S. don't consider torture to be torture...it is enhanced interrogation.

And that makes the problem go away.

Brings to mind - "The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons" – Fyodor Dostoevsky

Does anyone think that there should be prosecutions over the latest revelations and how far up should it go – up to Dick Cheney or George Bush, where does the buck stop?

yet another baiting thread from Balbus

Every one of your points could as easily be applied to British military because if you think America is the only ally that participated in such tactics, then BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

On another note, personally I feel moderators should be restricted from being so involved in the forums/creating threads as it leads to unfair moderation and silencing of members due to personal differences of opinion rather than actual rule violations.

The British military do not run the UK’s civil prisons.

And as I’ve explained to you more than once I’m not saying we haven’t got problems in the UK and I bring them up with people here but this is mainly a forum populated by Americans where US issues are mainly discussed and as pointed out by me and others [like Meagain] many Americans don’t seem to want to talk about issues in other counties if it hasn’t got a US angle.

Can you give any evidence of ‘unfair moderation’ or of me ‘silencing’ people?

Sorry I've received no Private Message and why does it have to be by PM anyway, i mean you've made the accusations in public, shouldn't I be allowed to defend myself in public?

I wish you would stop baiting Americans..

The CIA operates as its own entity ,. they do not follow any rules of the United States. They are in fact anti American...

Got you PM you end it – “Does that answer your question?”

Well I sorry but in relation to me it doesn’t – you put up a post that mentions my name and goes on to make two accusations of unfair moderation and the silencing of members, if you want to talk to the others you mention in that PM you can do but in regards to me you produce no evidence and only say -

You have "silenced" me twice for calling into question your motives and directly opposing your ideas.”

I ask again can you please produce the evidence of this, it should be easy to point out the tread and posts you are talking about and I’ll check it out.
