You know I don't agree with most conservatives and most religious types. But what I like about them is when they say something I do agree with, I can be taken more seriously that way. As I have often said, I still believe in moral responsibility. But for about 30 years now I have seen punishment as end unto itself (which is something I too one time supported) are pointless and hypocritical too. “All punishment is mischief. All punishment in itself is evil.” Jeremy Bentham. “Hate the crime and not the criminal.” Mahatma Gandhi. “Life imprisonment is a hidden death penalty.” Pope Francis. “Men simply copied the realities of their hearts when they built prisons.” Richard Wright. “No one commits crime for the fun of it. It is a sign of a diseased mind. The causes of a particular disease should be investigated and removed.” Mahatma Gandhi. “People are unrealistic, illogical, and self-centered. Love them anyway.” Mother Teresa.
