Hi all. Just thought I'd share this strange experience I had with weed once.

I lived in Thailand for a few years. Since it was often boring and also relatively easy to score low-grade weed, I spent many a evenings comfortably stoned. For the most part it wasn't anything special, just enjoying the heightened senses, expansive ideas, and the dopamine. One time, however, I experienced something totally out of the ordinary.

I smoked a fairly good-sized joint. For me too much usually means that I'll just get nauseous and the world will start spinning like crazy. Not this time. What I experienced was more like, eh, transcendence. I was sitting outside with my girlfriend when it hit me. It was as if my consciousness became totally detached from my body and my sense of self, almost as if it was floating above me. I guess you could say I felt 'at one with the universe'. Yet I was able to control my body and even talk and think clearly. It was a little scary at first but I didn't get locked into the fear gear. It turned into a very pleasant experience, like seeing the world anew.

Before I didn't really think of weed as a psychedelic but this experience changed my mind. I've had mushrooms some five times and x a few times but neither has given me this sense of ego dissolution (maybe my doses have been small).

Anyway, how often do you generally experience this effect with weed? Is it just a matter of dosage and/or quality of the grass? And has anyone ever been able to achieve this kind of mental state with meditation? If I've understood correctly, some Indian yogis strive to achieve this state permanently using some type of meditation. A perpetual ego dissolution might be a little weird, but I would certainly like to visit it from time to time.

(By the way, what's the contemporary medical term for this experience - psychosis?)

    I've had a couple experiences with ego-death.

Usually I was wrapped around a toilet...
