I was just wondering if anyone can explain what the English word "dig" means. To me it means something like making a hole in the ground.
Now the thing is I hear Hendrix using it often on live recordings.

e.g "Dig, I'd like to get something straight..." or " Yeah dig brother, uhm, it's really out of site here..." or "Dig, we'd like to do this anyway, regardless of what's happening..."

He can't mean something like "Make a hole in the ground, brother", can he? :)

Ooh and apparently he sings "well, dig it" in "Hey Joe". What the hell does *that* mean?

Aaaaargh, being non-English this word confuses me!

Thanks for any replies in advance

dig was just a slang term in the 60s, kinda like "are you down with it" "are you hip?" whatever.

    no one uses it anymore.

ya, it means do you like it or do you understand it. Some people use it, like the aging hippies that hang around downtown

Dig (v.) -- (1) meet. Ex., "I'll plant you now and dig you later." (2) look, see. Ex., "Dig the chick on your left duke." (3) comprehend, understand. Ex., "Do you dig this jive?"
