What is the difference as you see it between christians and followers of islam? Does the bible say anything specifically about muslims? Does the qurran say anything abou christians, I dont get it, you worship the same god, why is is it that you dislike each others religion?
I don't dislike muslims. In fact, I admire the devotion they put to their faith that i see lacking in many Christians (including myself). I may not agree with what they believe, but I don't dislike it
I didnt ask whether you dislike muslims I asked why dont you like their religion? Its a simple question I suppose - I am just asking what is the difference between christianity and islam? and, as you worship the same god, what is wrong so that you dont convert to islam? There must be something you dont like otherwise there wouldnt be a separate religion
Ummmm, well according to the Quran Jesus isn't God which is basically the basis to Christianity, so they are exclusive of each-other.
Well, some of the main differences, there's the Christ factor, to Christians Jesus is basically the son of god, while to muslims, Jesus was one of god's greatest prophets who did miraculous things. There is the mohemmed(sp?) factor, Christians don't have mohemmed, to muslims god spoke directly though the prophet mohemmed, making him god's greatest prophet Then theres the holy books, the bible is not the word of god, though many stories contain the instances of god talking to prophets(i.e. moses), the quran though is supposed to be what mohemmed preached from the direct word of god. In Islam, the term "people of the book" even refers to the fact that jews, christians and muslims are all people of a divine scripture, one passage says: And do not dispute with the followers of the Book except by what is best, except those of them who act unjustly, and say: We believe in that which has been revealed to us and revealed to you, and our God and your God is One, and to Him do we submit Muslims, Christians and Jews today could all take a lesson from that, hell 1,000 years ago when we launching crusades and jihads aganst each other we could've taken that advice. Then you start getting into the technical stuff. Jews, Muslims, Christians,Rastafaris, Baha'i religion, we all believe in the same god, all Abrahamic religions.
Most of us (Christians and Muslims) don't dislike each other's religions. It's people in power using things like this as an excuse to wage war, get money, and scare the masses. Sad but true.
There are irreconcilable differences between Christianity and Islam. Many Arabic Christians refer to God as Allah. However, the Allah of Islam is definitely not the God of the Bible.
It's a common misconception, epecially here in America where many people aren't aware of the essentials of Islam. Many people say that Christians and Muslims worship the same God, including President Bush. But a quick glance at the fundemental beliefs of each worldview, such as the nature of God, shows that this is not true.
Chrisitans are samrter now. Islam rules the lives of muslims, 5 tiems a day, controlign women, its still a big part of their lives..... eh what a waste.... they could be ruling the world with all resources... but they blow up themselves.. also a crazy thing to do, party guys !
OK thanks for the info. I really hadnt expected christians to list so many differences. I have some friends who are muslims (I am not of a religion myself) - and when I have asked several muslims what they think the differences are, they dont list so many. Obviously the main area of contention is the status of Jesus, they believe he existed but was a mere prophet. Apart from that they seem to think that the bible is an exceptional work and find little fault with it other than it was written by many people rather than one. Does it not seem silly, that whether you believe jesus was a prophet or the son of god, there is not areas of reconciliation, between muslims and christians? From what muslims say, and what christians say I believe there is more in common than differences, and I really do think its the same god you worship. surely if there is only one god as you say there is, then muslims are worshipping it and so are you. Infact so is every religion, otherwise you are saying that god is only going to allow christians into heaven
Columbo - as muslims say " there is no GOD except Allah" so of course theres no GOd adn all religions are obeying to Allah. But they dont understand, that blowing themselves wont being them anywhere, but 15 meters around in pieces of meat.
If we are talking about whether there is one true God that created all people, that all are accountable to then yes, the God of the Muslims is the same as the God of the Christians. But if we are saying that Muslims and Christians have the same understanding of who God is and worship the same God then the answer is a definite no. The fact that there is one true God does not mean that everyone who worships "god" is worshipping Him. If this was true, there would be no such thing as idolatry. All you have to do is ask members of different religions who God is and you can see that not everyone worships the same God. In the Bible, God specifically forbids the worship of gods other than Himself. The status of Jesus Christ is the core of Christianity. Do deny Jesus' divinity is do deny the God of the Bible.
The biggest difference(s) between Christians and Muslims is that most Christians stopped cutting peoples heads of with a rusty knives about a thousand years ago. Christians have moved into the 21st centuary and most Muslims seem still be stuck in the time of the crusades. Muslims seem to be unabashed in their own bigotry and racism and frequently call other races pigs or monkeys, or feel guiltless when they draw horribly offensive cartoons of others but are themselves so thin skinned that they take offence at any preceived slight even if none was intended. Muslims take great offence if any one sullies the name of god, damages a mosic or holy sight or in any way dishonors the koran however they feel free to blow up, burn desicrate or destroy differing sects of islam's mosics or holy sights. I am reasonably sure that there are korans in the various Shia holy buildings that the Sunnies burn and destroy in Iraq and vise versa and that these korans are damaged and burned in the process...but then where is the outrage when that happens???
In the first paragraph, you said that there is only one true God. In the second you say that although there is only one true God not everyone who worships God is worshipping the true God. You infer that some worshippers are indulging in idolatry, and yet offer no definition of idolatry and no objective and absolute standard for determining who's got the real God. In the Bible, God says "You shall have no other Gods before me", but he doesn't clearly define or describe who he is or what his qualities are. Once again, you've provided no absolute standard of proof. You can't make a universally valid pronouncement that followers of other religions aren't worshipping the true God, even if they call him by a name other than God or Jehovah, utilize scriptures other than the Bible, or engage in spiritual practices that are strange to you or apparently forbidden in the Bible. If Jesus's status as the Son of God doesn't make him divine, what does?
I am saying that anyone who worships a god other than the one true God, the God of the Bible is committing idolatry. This isn't just my opinion, it's what God says in the Bible. The point of my post was to say that the Allah of Islam is not the God of the Bible. In the Bible, God does define who He is and shows His qualities. I believe what the Bible says, that there is one true God. Whether you believe in the God of the Bible or don't, it's clear that the Allah of Islam and the God of the Bible are not the same. Jesus is divine, the Son of God. What I'm saying is that Islam denies this. I should have given an example of what I meant earlier. To believe in Jesus' deity is an unforgivable sin to the Muslim. They also reject the divinity of the Holy Spirit. In Christianity there is one infinite, triune God who has revealed Himself as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. One in essence, but three in personality. A Muslim would never accept this. So, the God of Christianity is not the Allah of Islam. I would like to hear a Muslim's take on this as well.
hmm well when you read the quran you need to also read when verses were revealed to understand whats going on, and the problem is that the last verses revealed were the most violent and give a command to spread the religion using the sword . mohammed was a military leader or bandit who personally tortured people and made people into slaves raped people and married a 8 year old ,his character was much like a arab charles manson , jesus was a sap who got cruicified and forgave the people who crucified him. most of the books you will read about islam give you a sugar coated view of the religion because telling the truth is so dangerous you can see the reaction the pope just got and by the number of critics of islam who are eitehr dead or in hiding. and there is a incentive to paint islam in a good false light because of oil money and political pressure, this effects all western media so you just wont get true view of the religion . I would suggest you read something like the politicallly incorrect guide to islam and the crusades by robert spencer you can get it as a ebook on file sharing things like emule or through amazon . or visit robert spencers site jihadwatch.com http://www.jihadwatch.org/ or faithfreedom.org which is a site set up by ex muslims http://www.news.faithfreedom.org/ http://www.faithfreedom.org/Articles.htm
The Qu'ran specifically refers to Jews and Christians as fellow 'believers'. So, though you may not agree they worship the same God, it appears the Qu'ran says they do. I say they do too. They all came from Abraham. They are kindred faiths, like brothers who just can't stop squabbling. It is really sad, and at the same time, I find it really ignorant. What chance do we have of getting all the worlds faiths to accept each other if these three religions who are so fundamentally related cannot even do so? The Qu'ran mentions Christians, but the bible does not mention Islam. If anyone really wants to know this stuff, read the books. Ishmael is in the bible, and is said to be the person that began the families that eventually became Muslims. But since Islam was founded long after the bible was supposedly written, it is not specifically mentioned biblically.
The quran tells muslims not to take a jew or a christan as a friend also not to let a muslim women marry a jew or christian . lets say you have a man like charles manson he makes up a religion with quotes from jesus and buddha and the beatles and loads of bullshit how you have to kill a lot of people that dont believe in old charlies religion well I suppose you could say that that religion of manson was related to buddhism and christianity. but it wouldnt be much like them in practice, especially if it told you not to take buddhist and christians as friends and fight them till the world worships charlie and his god
I think you should investiagate the essential beliefs of Christianity and of Islam. I'm not going to re-post everything I did before but let me just say that I'm a Christian and I worship the God of the Bible. The God of the Bible is the Triune God. One God, three persons. The Father is God, the Son(Jesus Christ) is God and the Holy Spirit is God. This is the God that Christians worship. A Muslim would deny this God. In fact, they consider the Christian declaration of Christ's deity an unforgivable sin. The also deny the deity of the Holy Spirit claiming that the Holy Spirit(who the Bible claims is God) is actually the archangel Gabriel. The God of the Bible is definitely not the Allah of Islam. If you happen to know any Muslims, ask them about these points. The foundation of Christianity and the foundation of Islam are irreconcilably different.
