It took me so long to work this one out. DO NOT EVER FUCKING TRIP ON AN EMPTY STOMACH. A satisfying nutritional meal about an hour or so before hand will do wonders. I also like to dose up on nutrient with some superfoods mixed into juice or a smoothie. Acai, spirulina, maca powder, chia seeds are all very good. I find there are times when I feel hungry, yet are completely unable to bring myself to putting things in my mouth while tripping. I mean, everyone is different, but it is a variable that inexperienced users might underestimate. Or in my case yesterday, I was handed mushrooms and didn't stop to think about how little I had eaten. So yeah, learn my lesson guys.
Actually with most psychedelics, mushrooms in particular, its generally recommended to take them on an empty stomach because food slows down metabolization of the shrooms causing a slower onset and for many increases nausea. But I know its somewhat common for people to take their shrooms in a lil bit of food to mask the taste, most sacrametal use of shrooms practice a fast before ingesting them. With LSD I don't think it directly interacts with your gut so its a little different. I find eating prior to psychedelics detracts from the trip usually but as you said everyone is different and mindset is probably the foremost important factor with psychedelics so if eating makes you feel comfortable than that may play unto your trip.
I was told that, and didn't eat much before a trip for ages before realising that it was linked to my stomach pains. I guess what would have been better advice for me to say is that one should pay close attention to the causes of discomfort for them when tripping, and learn lessons. Avoidable annoyances can cloud the potential of a trip.
i prefer empty stomach too but I eat something healthy before I start coming up and after I drop. This way the acid doesn't have to be processed slowly with food. Drinking enough water is a bigger concern than food though.
i've had all kinds of wierd hallucinations from eating while tripping. which tends to make me not want to eat during a psychedelic experience. but eating a nice meal beforehand and especially some meat i've found is really nice. especially if you aren't going to eat for 12 hours. with mushrooms i'll generally just do a type of fasting, but with lsd i've found that being nourished really improves the trip.
I usually don't pay much attention to what I eat when I'm going to trip. I think the best method is probably to eat a small healthy meal a few hours before you dose so that you dose right in that sweet spot where you're not hungry but your stomach isn't really full. Also I absolutely love to eat while tripping. I find I actually get the munchies while most of my other friends can't eat anything. Maybe it's just cause I always love to eat, so tripping just brings that out further.
That's a much more reasonable statement than don't ever trip on an empty stomach, period. I'd echo GB's comments, especially with things that tend to induce nausea, which generally doesn't apply to L. I was 'brought up' with psyches that one should fast as much as possible the day of. The idea being two-fold... if your body is metabolizing food, it decreases the potency of your dose. In much the same way as drinking on a full vs empty stomach. Not to mention blood flows to the stomach during digestion. Secondly, there is a very complicated interaction between how your experience unfolds and what you've recently digested. Proteins, carbs, aminos, sugars, all play a viable role. Some people feel that a particular kind of food over another works best for them beforehand. If that works for them, awesome. Myself I fast as much as possible and eat coming down.
I love to eat because I want to live to trip again and again. fasting sounds like some junkie bullshit.
I prefer to eat normally before and during the trip. I don't like to be hungry during and just in case I have a bowel movement on the trip I know an average amount of excrement to be expected, otherwise I'd sit on the toilet for an hour not knowing when to stop.
I eat once a day and would rather do it after the trip. If I did eat beforehand then it would be yogurt mixed with fruit.
I don't like being hungry when tripping. Most meats are kinda creepy when tripping. Bacon is always good, though. Generally veggies, fruits, and maybe a light meal 2 hours before dosing. I've also thrown up after eating like an hour before dropping though. But I wouldnt' eat anywhere neat dropping a PEA, thrown up on them even with just water, on the comeup.
I had a smoothie on my last comeup. DELICIOUS and filling - well at least all I needed for a while. About 5 hours in, a girl made bacon, that was also good. Salty but good. I tried to eat a fruit salad, but in Canada, fruit in winter sucks so I couldn't eat it.
If you do eat on an empty stomach just be sure your are comfortable not eating for awhile and your not starving yourself. If you fast or are used to mushrooms enough to where they will not bother your empty stomach, then this is okay. It may come on faster and propel your farther, which may be a pluse. If you a not comfortable with fasting, or your rarely eat mushrooms, you may want to eat before hand. A light meal, even a normal sized meal will do. The mushrooms are going to kick in either way, maybe just not in the same amount of time. The more energy you have, the better everything functions, the better your trip. If you have no energy from not eating, your mind and body can't function right, you can't get that quality trip. There are some people who have more energy when they fast, because there bodies can just run of water, air, and light because they are used to this, and purified themselves enough to do so, and no energy is being used to clean out the system, everything is running smooth. A lot of peoples bodies, especially in western culture, are not attuned for this. It is better to just eat a good enough meal for the day then to be in the middle or end of a trip with your body crying im hungry and cranky and running out of steam. An for an anecdote, I once was on Mescaline all day and only ate bread. I walked around in the woods for a good five hours of the trip, and had also blasted off with some dmt. At the very end of my trip after the come down I drove to a football game to pick up a friend, before leaving the parking lot I was vomiting profusely. Strong sensations that felt half euphoric, and half extraordinarily painful. I felt like my body was eating itself, some how I tried to drive home stopping to vomit constantly. It was a terrible experience and taught me a lot, it is also part of the reason why I wrote this extraordinarily long post about food and psychedelics. ;]
I once ate a McDonald's cheeseburger tripping face off acid and while it was the greatest thing I have ever ate it also jufeeling like a piece of rubber in my mouth. While chewing at one point I forgot how to eat, lmao. You don't always need to eat when tripping, you want to drink plenty of water tho especially ifbyouvare tripping off a chemical. You might have had dirty acid which caused the stomach cramps.
