not really a fan of determinism...but i find the arguments i've heard in it's favor usually imply belief in something else [god, a certain field of psychology, ect..]
I found myself repeating the same words in the shower the other day. I resolved to leave this to poets who ask the eternal questions in such form to be remarkable for history. I think this is philosophy 101 stuff, but, I'm going to give both side some value. However the far greater faith is of free-will as I am under delusion that I am acting my part, as well as often reacting it. "I" input live/life, which brings consequences.
Really, how is that? It seems to me that if the universe is ultimately governed by a small set of laws (or maybe even ONE law ), then our actions can be explained in mechanical terms with the same adequacy as explaining why water freezes below 0 degrees celsius. It definitely seems like we have free will, but that doesn't mean we do. Of course the other possibility is that the laws that govern the universe are actually structured so as to allow free will in beings who have developed self awareness and consciousness.
i think, that we have free will, but there are forces that pull on the strings. free will depicts fates as well as determinism. which you could think of in several ways that our fate is predetermined and our free will is whether to live up to our purpose or not. or that our free will plays a role in determining our fate but certain meetings/events/occurences have a natural 'pull' towards them and are more likely to happen and have a higher impact. or that there is some higher force working in incomprehensible and unpercieved ways to manipulate the reality that is as a totally seperate entity from our free will, but that our free will exists as well. perhaps there is some kind of relation between the forces though as per the laws of karma and dharma. or perhaps, it is all three.
