I used to work in a photo lab, and a woman came in very excited, wanting to make posters for the whole congregation of her church, because "the spirit" had magically appeared in her photos of the altar. I asked to see her camera, and showed her the pattern of dried water droplets and dust that caused the odd reflections, but she insisted that it was "the spirit coming down" and I didn't have the heart to argue with her. She ended up buying a whole stack of 11x14 enlargements.

 

I hope she got laughed out of the church.

 

There was a window pane in Clearwater, Florida that would show a cross-like figure. It became a sort of shrine for the people. It turned out to be some mineral deposits on the window from the sprinklers that made a cross-like reflection of light. The water in Clearwater actually has a lot of minerals. Some of the people in support of that window cleaned the minerals off the other windows that also had the cross-like reflection so that people would think it only happened on one window and was a miracle.

Years ago there was a building with a rusted side somewhere in Michigan or Ohio that people claimed was the figure of the Virgin Mary. People were stopping on the freeway to look at it and causing a traffic hazard.
