This thread is intended to be referenced in the FAQs or as a sticky. It's hard to find the exact information on what and how much to use and it's by all means not convenient to find. So post YOUR version of a deep cleansing solution AND what exactly you do to inform less experienced and knowledgeable people. I know there are several good mixtures people use and the ratio's vary so I would like to get a wide spectrum of input. This thread doesn't have to be limited to just a deep cleansing concoction but any homemade remedy for head washing. Post your submission in the thread, and I will edit this main post to list to list all the submissions so it will act as an easy reference that people don't have to dig through multiple pages of posts, just to find the information. Thanks for the input. :cheers2:
Deep Cleanse contributed by Smelly D 210g bicarb, 1 tablespoon (15ml) of sea salt, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, a few drops of tea tree oil (i just shook the bottle, didnt count them like) mixed in a big bowl with warm/hot water, and then jug by jug poured it on my head, with the bowl under my head (i hang upsidedown over the side of the bath) to catch the run off, keep doing this a)until im fed up or b)until it cools down squeeze out the excess (but leave my hair mostly soaked) and then whack my hair up in a towel, basically until i start to get a burning sensation ^-^ although, when i did a deep clean last week, the burning never came, so i think in total id left it on my head for about 45minutes.. rinse, rinse, rinse and rinse again, and then once more just incase, especially around my hairline and behind le ears dry hair lovely stuff Deap Cleanse contributed by Merrivale 1) find a bucket 2) pour some baking soda in (not too much, not too little) (2 to 4 heaping tablespoon fulls) 3) add warm water 4) put your head in it, scratch your scalp and squeeze your locks for a while 5) stick your locks in a towel for while (optional) or rinse straight out Sometimes I add tea tree oil and/or sea salt to this (not too much of either though). I never ever bother with lemon juice, waste of time imo... If I add sea salt I always use a small amount of boiling water, I think it helps dissolve the salt, might be wrong though. Afterwards in the shower I usually go over once more with some baking soda in a shampoo bottle and rinse, not all the time though. Sorry I know you wanted more precise ratios, but I have never bothered to measure, I just do it by eye. Deep Cleanse contributed by Domikatetrix 2 table spoons bicarb 1/2 cup acv 1 teaspoon teatree oil (sometimes more) 1 teaspoon lemon juice 1 tablespoon seasalt mix all of this into 8 cups of boilng rosemary and thyme (i boil the rosemary and thyme like tea) and peppermint tea let cool so it doesnt burn your scalp then pour over dreads (or dip ur dreads which ever works) leave on as long as u like with a towel covering ur dreads ( i do this so it doesnt get on my face and ALL of it dries on my dreads) and and then rinse with cool water Deep Cleanse contributed by bcmama 3/4 Cup baking soda 2 Tbsp lime juice 2 Tbsp apple cider vinegar 1-2 Tbsp sea salt (optional) 6-8 drops tea tree essential oil 4-6 drops lavender essential oil 2-3 drops peppermint essential oil enough warm water to soak all your dreads Mix all ingredients with warm water in a large basin and soak your dreads, making sure that your scalp is saturated too. Wrap your dreads in a towel and let it soak for at least 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water until water runs clear. **You can add herbal teas to this as well, to give your head some extra love. Just boil a handful of herbs in a medium pot full of water for 15-30 minutes, until you have a dark tea. Strain and cool the tea before adding to recipe. Try using nettles, rosemary, parsley, thyme or sage. Rosemary Tea contributed by vigilanteherbalist2 i like a nice rosemary tea, maybe about 4 tbsp of rosemary and a half gal. of water. Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) rinse contributed by bcmama dilute AVC with water 50:50, then soak my scalp and dreads in it, and just leave it. The vinegar smell will do away as your locks dry.

thanks for the submission...much appreciated. A couple varied version would be awesome from anyone else that has one

Yeah I know really vague, pretty useless, but yeah something like that maybe more. I probably use more than necessary, but I use a bucket big enough to stick my head in.
I usually use 3 or 4 big spoon fulls of it (when I use it). I too probably use too much. One time it didn't rinse all out.
hmm yeah I'm pretty much in love with the stuff, it's got so many uses and it's been really great for my dreads, best thing along with ACV, and above all it's cheap
What's your ACV ratio mixture. I never tried that stuff in my head...I only drink it and cook with it for flavor and health benefits...that too is amazing stuff.
Again I don't measure, I just pour some in my trusty bucket, not very much though, then fill up with warm water, once I used too much and didn't rinse it all out properly. If I had to guess I'd say maybe about 100-150ml. This is a very rough guess though, maybe next time I'll measure things out and edit them into my posts. Edit: Probably should add, then follow the same routine as with baking soda, soak the dreads, scratch around my scalp until I feel I've done enough scratching/scrubbing, then, either rinse out with water, or wrap in a towel for a while and then rinse out.
I would like to put that in the main post, but without more specifics for ACV, i don't want to put it up....for the noobz sake.
I dilute AVC with water 50:50, then soak my scalp and dreads in it, and just leave it. The vinegar smell will do away as your locks dry. ETA: its been pointed out that the AVC smell lingers in some people's locks, so go ahead and rinse if you are worried about that.
so you just leave the solution on your head without rinsing it? interesting... I will have to try that for sure.
this really isn't true for me... I find I can smell the ACV after 2 or even 3 washes... just a little rankness if a breezes catches my roots. But eye has a veddy sensitive shnaz
