Now that summer time is fast approaching and most of the barefooters have slipped off their sandals in anticipation, I was wondering....How many others have things that they like to wear on their feet? I go between toe rings, anklets, henna, and now my favourite new decoration: my soleless sandal...I'm making another as soon as I get more beads! It looks so lonesome on my left foot!

your soleless sandal looks great. (by the way, so do your feet ;) )

i don't have these sandals, so i'm really into toe rings. when the shoes come off, i wear at least two of them at a time and i have a huge collection. i also like toenail polish in different colours.

do you wear the sandal at school?

Holly, that's really some beautiful work you've done.

I do that kind of stitching as well, but I've never done a soleless sandal like yours. I do mostly necklaces. I'm intensely curious about how you make those, and I wonder if you could PM me some instructions or if you got the plans for them somewhere if you could point me in the right direction. The stitching is the easy part, it's the planning that sometimes throws me. How do yours attach? Are they clipped or tied at the back or something? I'd love to start making those as gifts for girls I know, girls with pretty feet like you... :D

I have the hemp and the beads, just gotta start... Maybe I'll attempt one tonight, see if I can replicate what it looks like you've done there.

    Hellllp! :)

lets see...I'm horrid at giving directions, but I'll try to do a photo instructions set for you...or have a friend that watched me in work type them out for you...it wasn't difficult. :)

    Thanks sweetie.

Most of my questions are about how many strands you start with, and how they rejoin to the band that goes around the ankle. That's where most of the mystery of any knotted work like that arises.

So any help you could provide about it would be appreciated. If I end up making any modifications to improve things as I see them, I'll be sure to send that info back to you, too. :) I sometimes have some good insights about that sort of thing. I've innovated some cool necklaces in the last few years, techniques that can be adapted to other kinds of projects.

what I did for my completed pair to attach them to the band around the ankle was make sure that the beading thread was longer than need be by an inch and then I square knotted the bit around my ankle until it met where I wanted the first beaded strand to sit on my foot then I fed the beaded strand's main thread in with the other main threads of the bit around my ankle and then square knotted over it, making sure to alternate leaving it out of the knot and putting it back into the next.

I started with 2 pieces of cord around my toe, halfed to make four main threads. The beads closest to my toe had really wide openings, so that they fit over all four threads. When I felt the need, I just halfed the main threads and started a new square knot over half and continued on with the original filler cord on the other half.

To connect the part back in the middle, I just took both bead cords and one each of the filler cords and bunched them together and then square knotted over them using the remaining filler cords....Dunno if this makes sense...Like I said, I'm horrible with giving instructions...

And Psyche, I could make a pair for you this summer. :)
