Its recently come to my attention that a school that i hate is trying to charge me some money which we have desputed over, A dorm charge that i was going to pay if they would take off the month that i had been forced to room with a guy who tryed to kill me 2 years back ( and yeh its documented) they refused so i told them, well good luck getitng blood from a stone baby and left now i jsut need to wait for 6 yrs and go with out contact to them and i should be clear! Any tips on how to stay out of the path of the collection man ( Alrdy no phone and have people that will cover and say i am somplace like nepal or what not) but other tips/advice/encourgament
Pay in cash, never credit cards, and you will have to get a new job every few months. It takes them like 6 months to find out where you work. How much money are you talking here?
well i dont ever plan on having a card so thats fine also it will be out of state and its 1006 i know its not alot but i jsut wont pay things ( or do what operations want) when i feel ive been treated unfairly
If you don't pay that bill you will be harrassed by a collection agency. That's about it. Unless it's a state school, then I'm not sure but I'd guess that they may have more power. But I don't think you have too much to worry about with just a thousand dollars. They would spend more than that just going to court to try to get the money from you, so you will only have to deal with annoying phone calls and letters if the do find you. If you really want to avoid them anyway, hitting the road would be a good idea, and a valuable experience. You shouldn't have a hard time staying off the grid in a city either, just don't use your name for anything and tell your family to keep their mouths shut when the collectors call. No worries, 7 years after the charge was incurred you're free...
If you have someone who can act, have them call you up as whoever the debt collection people are *probably not the school*, and threaten to break you're legs. Tell them you have this on tape and play it over the phone to them, and threaten to go to the police. Don't actually go to the police with it though. Fakeing evidence can get you into trouble, just try and use it to barter your way out. You could fake your death too, but then you'd probably have to move to another country.
What you have my friend is a charge-off or uncollectable account. not a judgment. The School may elect to sell this debt to a collection agency for say fifty cents on the dollar, then you wont pay the school because they will have assigned the debt to annother party ( the collection agency) When appling for a home mortgage loan, collections / charge-offs younger than one year must be paid. Older than 1 yr, perhaps not. They might try to win a judgement in court, only if they win will your bank account be subject to garnishment. You will have a court room to present your case so read your mail to see if a coure hearing is pending. If this debt is older than one yr. the chances of The Creditor seeking a judgement are pretty slim. If the collection / charge-off apprars on your credit report, it will have a negative affect on your overall credit score. Your best remedy is to achive favorable ratings on other credit lines to "balance off ' the collection. Try to maintain active balances on two or three cards or an auto to demonstrate " willingness to pay". Any credit collection agency purchasing the debt from the school will send you a letter. You should respond as to the tainted nature of the debt. Then the Collection Agency will then remit the debt back to the school as uncollectable because you have made your case. You may attempt to reach a settlement with the Creditor. Offer them 30 cents on the dollar, negotiate, don't pay in full.
