Recently discovered this band. Scream bloody gore. What a fucking album :guitar:

  2. A good find indeed. Sound of Perseverance is my favorite.

I just bought The Sound of Perseverance last week, actually. It's fantastic. It makes me feel emotions I typically don't associate with metal. Great work, very introspective. Now I need to get myself some of their earlier stuff.

Death is one of the all time greats. RIP Chuck. :( Anyways, my favorite Death album has gotta be Symbolic. (If you haven't heard this album, check it out. It's by far the best Death album.)

  5. I have The sound of perseverance and Live in L.A. lying around somewhere as well... especially the live album is quite entertaining at times. Spirit crusherrrrr!

I bought Symbolic when it first came out, and I think it sucked big time. About a year ago I got Scream Bloody Gore, hated it for a month and then started digging it and I like it quite a bit now.

Love death metal, hate the band Death.

Now that's hard to understand. Death is one of the leaders of death metal. So i don't see how you could hate them. And plus they've been around for quite a long time, most good bands were influenced by Death.

That makes perfect sense to me. I mean, I'm really not into a lot of death metal, but the band Death has always bored the shit out of me! I feel the same way about slayer, it's like I think I'd rather listen to Razor or somebody better. Then again, I only like a handful of death or thrash bands... so it's just my opinion.

That's exactly how I feel about them. I hate Chuck's vocals, and their riffs and songs were extremely boring even for their time. Honestly, they were one of the first death metal bands I tried getting into, and I thought, well god, if they're all this disappointing, then fuck it.
I'll take some Possessed or Death Strike or Nihilist for kick ass first wave death any day, others can have Death.

    Death
Genre(s): Death Metal (early), Death / Progressive Metal (later)

Although clearly they were very thrash influenced earlier on.

  16. Chuck annoys the shit out of me because of his personal beliefs and not too well thought out opinions, but i gotta admit i loved Sound of Perseverance. Richard Christy(sp?) is the shit, funny as hell too.

Individual Thought Patterns and Leprosy are my favorite Death albums. Amazing band.

  18. Quoting Metal Archives proves nothing.

For me they've always had more of a thrash sound but I'm no expert at either death or thrash metal AND I have a very stereotypical view of death metal (guttural grunts, super low and heavy riffs without much melody, blasts and double bass all the way - not something Death as a band have ever conformed to, hence my classification as thrash) so I'm not the one to ask.

I've never heard anyone say that Death wasn't death metal.
Every article, review, and interview with the band themselves has placed them in the death metal realm.
As much as I loathe the band, they are one of the reasons that the genre took off and did so well.
