I've come across this type of situation a number of times: cops who have their minds made up right from the start that you are guilty when they have nothing tangible to prove you guilty. This is a difficult situation to deal with. They argue argue the opposite to everything you say that proves your innocence or they deliberately ignore it. Then they start making up straw man arguments that are supposed to somehow prove you are guilty when it is all irrelevant to the situation at hand. Then they repeat everything you say back to you with a sarcastic tone of voice as if you are lying. I've gone at it sometimes for a half hour with an officer who is off his rocker. The longer it goes on with my quiet, deliberate, and careful statements, the more frustrated they become. My ability to outmaneuver them sometimes causes them to unravel to the point where they are yelling at me. It's humorous in a way. There's a risk that out of their frustration they will arrest me, but then they are taking a chance at false arrest or getting egg on their face for further clogging up the courts with yet another frivolous case based on their emotions rather than evidence. Anyone else have some pointers on how to deal with such situations? It comes down to a matter of getting a cop to acknowledge that he is wrong without him going ballistic. I would imagine people involved with conflict management programs might be able to shed some light on it. .
Be really nice, friendly, and polite to them. Show them that you're not afraid of them. Always works for me. I've never gotten in any problems with the law... even though I should have gotten in plenty.
You do not give enough information in your post. Are you in a car or on foot? What are they bugging you about? Do you fit the "profile"?
The last time I got hassled over my motorized bicycle I told the cop to just right the ticket and we can go see the judge together. He started explaining about the law and I said Just write the ticket! He said well I'm going to have to look into this and left.
because cops don't care if you are innocent or guilty their job is to get charges. not to build a case not to help you not to serve and protect it is to find people they can put charges on, put as many charges on them as possible, find the next person it doesn't matter if they stick (unless they don't because of bad police work, that can get you fired) this isn't cynicism, this is what cops really think, and how they think, watch cops, watch the lies they tell, the questions they ask, how they behave, they exist to get as many charges as possible.
In most places, they have quotas. They need to fill those quotas. When dealing with them, I stay as calm as I can, but I've found that regardless of the situation, I am treated as a criminal and assumed to be one. I have zero faith in their ability to help me should I need their help, and I have absolute confidence that if they could bust me for something I didn't even do, they would do so in a heartbeat.
try to not act like you belong in jail...i can usually tell if somebody has been to jail just by how they behave. yes, im that good and i can imagine cops are even better at it. keep clean, try not to look dirty, scummy, guilty, uneducated or ignorant. finally, if you act like a crack head the cops will not like you , know matter how much law you think you know or how well you think you come across. cops are just grunts like you and i. they are really just doing a robotic job with every situation prepared and practiced for in advance. to them the law is in black and white and not really open for discussion or your philosophical interpretation. if it's not in a check list, a manual or a guide then cops are as useful to public peace as a hippie is to social security. act cool and you might get a break. act like you belong in a court room then expect to be pepper sprayed and, hopefully, beat the fuck down. who likes a know it all?
There's no trick to the trade that's guaranteed. Depends on the cop. I've been nice as hell and gone to jail, and I've been a dick and gotten off with some of the most insane shit in my life. I just take my big ass dog with me everywhere I go now, and those cock suckers never pull me over.
The quality of the police in ones area plays a big part also. For example where I reside we have for the most part great police,we also have a very low crime rate.--Any bad police officer ruins the overall reputation of that specific areas police department, and they should be fired. Why this does not happen more often is beyond me.They are supposed to protect and 'serve'.A bad police officer is no better than a bad criminal-there really is no difference.
Quotas or anything similair is UNacceptable and should be stopped,it just encourages incompetent and/or bad police behavior. As far as I know they do NOT have quotas here.
they dont call them the blue collar mafia for no reason...and this is one of the reasons i could care less if a cop lives or dies...
Dealing with pigs?( u mean dealing coke?) Tie them up in paperwork at the PCA. Get a friendly journalist. Record them by audio/video. Use friends at the Lodge ( masons) to find out their secrets. Beat em up somewhere without cameras. Drug them and photograph em with hookers who look under 18. Oh how I love people who were bullied in school and decide they wanna wear a uniform..(not)
