Is it okay to wear a beanie with day old "dreads"? Also, when should I give them their first wash, and how often should I wash them. I'd prefer them to be semi clean, but I'd like to avoid making them fall apart.
i ONLY wore a tuque for the first month! to bed, out, everywhere! there's no harm. It actually could help tangle more. I would wait a week or so before washing. That's what i did. After you wash though, they are going to fall apart....but don't let that discourage you. Just make sure you seperate & palm roll if you want to stick everything back together. Good luck!
yup, what lucy said. i wore my dreadie tam right away, its can help them tangle a bit better. i waited almost two weeks to wash and now i wash every weekish. mine really dont need it more often than that. you can expect them to be a bit greasy or whatever for the first little while cause your scalp needs time to adjust to infrequent washings.
Any harm in wearing a beanie instead of a tam, or any other kind of dread hat? I was looking, and I couldn't find any type of dread hat that I really like. Most of the ones I found are a bit too hippy-ish for me. =X Not that being/looking hippy-ish is a bad thing, for all of you hippies out there. It's just not my style =)
what exactly are you looking for in a hat? i might be able to make you one for the price of the yarn and a little bit extra for my time... let me know and i'll see what i can work out
Honestly, I was thinking about getting one of those little anime beanies with ears, haha. Too bad I don't look right in colors, because most of the ones I've found are yellow or whatnot. If I figure out what kind of hat I want, I'll definitely be sure to let you know. I'm really indecisive, so it might be a while. =P
