Dawn of the Planet of the Apes Movie Blurb by Shale July 12, 2014 This movie was the one to see this weekend. It was well received by 91% of the aggregate critics on Rottentomatoes and by 93% of audiences. At the end of the movie in the matinee I attended a couple of ppl applauded (I’m always amazed when that happens in a movie). This is the sequel to the summer 2011 movie, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and fits nicely as a continuation of that movie. http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=432979&f=287 The opening shows a world map with markings of the infection spread from theALZ-113 virus developed in the last movie, which increases intelligence in apes but deadly to humans. With the map are voiceovers of news reports of the devastating pandemic and the riots and collapse of human civilization that occurs until there is no more. Caesar is living in this pristine forest miles from San Francisco, and is the leader of a tribe of apes, some characters from the first movie such as the mellow orangutan Maurice and the chimp Koba, who was badly damaged in human experiments. Caesar has a mate, an adolescent son and a newborn son. There is even discussion among the apes if there are any humans left on earth as it was a decade after the plague and none had been seen in years. Caesar Tribal Leader Then the question is answered as an exploration party encounters Caesar’s tribe. As with any viral plague there are always a few who develop resistance and immunity and survive. Seems there is a small settlement in San Francisco who are running out of fuel for their generators and want to restart a hydroelectric plant in the forest. Malcolm (Jason Clarke) is the leader of this mission and with him are his adolescent son Alexander (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and his second wife Ellie (Keri Russell) who was a nurse with CDC during the plague. Humans Discover Apes in the Forest The meeting goes bad because of a hateful human with a gun but Malcolm tries to complete the mission and gains the trust of Caesar. This movie is easy to understand just by checking the current world news. There is prejudice, mistrust and hatred among the humans and the apes. Humans call the plague that wiped out their kind on the planet the “simian virus” and the more ignorant among them don’t even know it was genetically engineered by a human. Back in San Francisco the humans, led by Dreyfus (Gary Oldman) are preparing for war against the apes if Malcolm cannot reason with them. There is an uneasy truce when Caesar and his band of 2K apes show up in the city to discuss terms. Apes Go Into San Francisco So, this is the set up as the two factions are in a tense situation and the haters on both sides actually provoke a war. Just as in the last movie, Caesar is conflicted because he has human friends whom he trusts. Malcolm & Caesar Friends
This was a real meat and potatoes movie, as in could sink your teeth in, I was glued to every second I really liked the first one, but I think this was better, more political Freaky how you end up rooting for the apes, even though some of the time they are running around killing humans
I still have to watch "rise of" as well I understand that movie (and this one) explains the ending of The planet of the apes (2001). That one really puzzled me at the time as it made no sense he came back to earth and saw apes riding cop motorcycles. I'm not expecting much brilliance from these movies, just some good entertainment :2thumbsup:
Maybe the new Planet of the Apes will have a good God revealed for the ending, and my upbringing to believe in that One will exonerate Itself.:smilielol5:
