Last week we attended our 5th Dave Mason concert. It was held in our little 670 seat hall in town. Not a bad seat in the house. Dave played his entire Alone Together album, 1970 This was a classic album of the era featuring Bonnie Bramlett, Leon Russell, Jim Capaldi, Rita Coolidge, Carl Radle and Jim Gordon. Unfortunately Leon Russel just passed away Last Sunday. This was the first tout he has played the entire album on since 1970. Dave was as good as ever, such a clean sound and light guitar work. After completing the album songs he played a few Traffic tunes and some others and finished with a tribute to Jimi Hendrix and Bob Dylan by performing All Along the Watchtower. He played acoustics on Hendrix's version. During the show he paused to ask for contributions for U.S. veterans. Mason was born in England in 1946 and said he can still remember the bombed out houses and destruction from WWII. He came to the U.S. in 1969 and told us that he can't express enough the appreciation the English have for our help during the war and he wanted to give something back. A truly classy man. Unfortunately I counted about 100 empty seats out of 670...sad. http://youtu.be/_HPVVuCYBAs
Seen him once and I want to see him again. His concert was one of just music, no goofy stage show, no banter between songs, he just played music.
