I wud really like 2 try blue hair 4 awile. But my hair is dark brown. I'm wondering if , to get a nice bright blue, I wud have to first bleach it.
I've never dyed my hair b4 but my impression is that if I just apply blue hair dye to dark brown hair I wud just come out with a dark blue instead of a bright blue. Is that true?

I don't know what would happen if you just applied the blue to brown, I doubt the results would be very favorable....you're definitely going to have to bleach before applying the blue if you're looking for vibrant results

last year I had red hair, than blue than purple. I tried to use a natural dye to lighten it first but was sheeeeet and only dyed some of the hairs...so then I bleached it and dyed it red and wow it looked great! So vibrant and beautiful. You realli have to be sure if you wanna dye your hair this kind of colour. It takes a lot of effort...colours like this cannot stick to your hair and washes out a lil bit more each time. I needed to re-dye mine every 3/4weeks which was a pain. It was soo much fun having such bright hair and I loveee bright blue hair too. Like a mermaid :) just think abot it and be sure...x

Well, I kind of figured a bleaching would have to come first. Blonds are so lucky! Well I'm waiting till spring to do it anyway. Heads always covered with stocking cap these days so there wouldn't be much point to doing it now.

that look wicked! I love love LOVE it! keep it blue. when I tried different colours they weren't as bright, stick to this. It'll be your thing. which dye did you use? It comes out crazy in the shower right?!

Oh, hells yes! It was all over the shower, the walls, the pillows, my skin and hands! I could only get it off with something as tough as alcahol... it was crazy!!

But it faded about a 2 and a half months after... it stayed for a long time, but that was because I'd been totally natural with my hair since then. Then I decided to do the top half brown and the bottam layers a dark blue, and that stayed long.

It's been about a year now, and my hair is back to it's natural colour :) I have to keep it this way for work, which is fine. I don't miss looking like a Smurf :p (my face was purple all the time). I loved my dyed hair, but I missed the natural thing. Easier upkeep, just have to trim my own hair.

The reason that pic of me and the colour is so bright is because we actually used dye meant only for tiny little highlights or just doing bangs, not the whole head. I used about a bottle and a half, thank god my hair dresser loved me :D
