Today the boy whose dreads I have been studying came in with them shaved off! :( Obviously he didn't know he was being studied lol, but I was doing a little bit of private research into real-time dreads so I can timescale them etc. What annoyed me was his reason for cutting them off was 'I've had dreads for 5 months, I'm bored now'. Dreads are not a fashion statement! grrr.

Well don't jump so soon, you don't know if that was his real reason. The first time I got them i only had them for about a year before I shaved them off. There were lots of reasons why I did, I don't always go into it with people, you know?

Dreads aren't anything except hair. What meaning is given to them beyond 'hair' is all a perception of mind. Everyone has the right to give what meaning to thier hair that they chose - from fashion statement to religious trappings. Don't fall into Dread elitism!

i cut mine off at 6 months, mainly because of nits but its not the point.

Cutting ur dreads off is well nice at first when your head feels all fresh and different, less than a month after i wanted them back but it was nice for abit (iv started dreading again already)

also may i ask why you were studying them? any information about dreads u need is here to be honest.

eh... your research was flawed anyway. Dreads form at different rates and come out very differently depending on hair type, what's done to them, etc.

I was just fascinated to watch someones dreads developing. You have to undertsand that they are a rarity around this area, so it was so unusual to see them. I'm not a dread elitist, I just got taht opinion from the general consensus of this forum. Streuth, I didn't expect lectures!
