Shit--It's probably my fault .I can never get the damn things right------It's Brandi Carlile----The story(official video).2:53 in the hair on my neck stands up.Beautifull song.Sorry about the link.Anyway it's on you-tube.Maybe someone will put the proper link up for me?
Here you go. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xq-ZmAYLeB8 Never heard of her before. She's got a nice voice, but I'm not sure if the music is really my cup of tea. Sounds a little too corporate/polished for me.
I'm with you. She's skilled at singing with the "broken yodel" sound, like she switches from upper range to lower, with skill, but the material is boring to me, bigtime, and more so with the unchallenging and token grunge backing. Just not my cup of tea. edit: and by the way, I'm TRYING to endure to the "2:53" mark, just to see,,but it's like listening to paint dry edit2: omg, at 2:53 she throws it all out,,,acchhhh,, She needs to spit out the mucus before singing,,haha. edit3: but man,,don't listen to me, or anyone for that matter. You've got a right,,
Did you listen to it all the way through?Have you never met the love of your life --someone that knows you completely--and lost it?Oh well,I've got many more miles on me than you ,my dear.(to whimbrel).
Yeah, it basically sounds like Kelly Clarkson type music with a different voice over it. That's what sucks about mainstream music today. It all sounds the same and suffers from that compressed, over-produced studio sound. The music from 25-50 years ago at least had some natural sounding qualities and the bands stood apart from one another.
I'm not like that, to be able to listen to a song just for the words or the message. If it's got crappy, standard backing, it just doesn't sell well with me. And to be frank, there's much better poetry out there, if you're looking for feelings. Also, she doesn't give me the impression that she's singing because she's feeling it. It's just too much a sales job to me, not real. Maybe the message is hidden there somewhere, but it gets lost in translation, to me, that is.
No,I know what you guys mean about "your cuppa tea"--I like NIN,Ministry,Minsk,Polly panic and most of what you youngins' like, but this particular song just gets me.And about the only lyric I know is frickin happy birthday! The music it'self is what touches me--except this one.The high mileage I guess.
And the friends and loves lost. And the million stories I have with no one to hear them these days. This is getting maudlin. And dumb.
