so yesterday i couldn't get on the internet i unplugged my modem and router and plugged back in, followed all the usual steps, nothing worked...shit, i was gonna have to call my ISP! my router was asking for a username and password from them, but the guy at my ISP knew about this problem and said it wasn't really their username and password, but a different problem with the router, so heconnected me to their technical support (a different company) soon i was talking to malcolm, an indian accented gentleman. he was fuckin awesome. he was telling me what to click on, what to search for, what i would see on the screen seconds before i would see it. "on the left hand side, click ____, you see it ask for a password, keep it blank, and click submit....it takes you back to the same screen. IS IT RIGHT?" it took like 30 or 40 minutes but i got it all fixed, and even got BOTH my laptops to be wireless (only 1 was before) and my network to be secure. so the point is, usually i dread shit like this. most people do, and usually it's a drag. but yesterday it was actually pleasant.
Niicee. Ive always hated talking to those customer service people.. They annoy me. Most of the time when the weather gets bad here like rainy my internet cuts on and off and we used to call the customer service but now i just plug and unplug my modem and i comes back within minutes.
yea usually unplug / plug will do the trick, but this was some complicated shit. i was having to type codes into my address bar, type in manual commands into my start menu, it was crazy. it felt almost matrix like, or some shit. like the dude could see my computer screen.
Does anyone else find some customer service people oddly calming on the phone? When I was on the phone to send my Xbox in for repair , I talked to THE CHILLEST guy ever. I'm pretty sure he was baked! It's like you're in good hands or something and you're getting that shit fixed.
yea, the guy i was talking to was like "do not worry joshua, we will fix the problem. don't worry about it. no problem. ok?" but i wasn't stressing out at all. it was like he had just been screamed at a million times before, he was just trying to be so nice.
Nice experience! It makes me want to call my ISP and see if they can fix my wireless. I've been stealing internet from the neighbors upstairs haha... I dread calling my ISP
When I get good customer service (which is rare) I take the time to thank the person and let them know that most people don't bother being as helpful. If the automated menu I'm subjected to before actually talking to a human includes "this call may be recorded for quality assurance" I'll say that I hope they recorded this one to serve as an example of how the job is done right. I try very hard to be patient though because I realize that cost cutting and outsourcing has thinned the herd of customer service and resulted in them not only being overworked but having to deal with customers who are 1- calling because of a problem so they're not going to be real cheery and 2- further aggravated by automated answering systems that offer no option for a technician until a tiresome menu of options and sub options have been ponderously detailed, further delaying a fix and escalating the pique which ultimately gets taken out on the hapless human who waits at the end of the process. "Your call is important to us..." BULLSHIT! If it were I wouldn't be here trying to guess which sub-menu offers the option of a "Customer Care Representative" and critical details I'll need to communicate get crowded out by the telephone version of road rage.
