Just wondering if any of you have ever gotten a custom order. made the item to the exact specs in the exact colors the person orderd and then had them email you saying the colors are not what they wanted at all.......... bleh it is annoying as crap. I got an order and the girl changed her mind three times on the colors, i guess shoulda given her a few days to decide instead of making the skirt after the third email because now she is saying that she didnt pick those colors and i am looking at the last email right now ARGGGGGGGGG

Send her back the email in which she stated the colors she wanted and demand pay!

Or maybe not, I need sleep. Good luck, anyway. :)

That does suck..ah well..theres always ebay to sell it on, no?

I had a custom order years ago..for a pair of all over patchwork pants for this guy. I made them just as he asked. I emailed him the picture and he was like 'I like them..but they aren't really what I expected'. SO, I was like 'ok whatever, I'll just list them on ebay'. So I did, at $20 below what I was originally asking for them...AND HE BID ON THEM! lol He ended up losing the auction to someone else. haha

i am glad he lost that auction cre i woldve shipped myself with the pants and kicked his ass!!

she already payed and got the skirt so i just emailed her the last email she sent me! she said no worries, if there were no worries she woldnt have wrote me bitching about it, probly just trying to get something for free or decided she wanted her money back at the last min.

if you must change your mind 8 times, make sure you remember the last color choice you email LOL

    =)

I just got a custom order.. not sewing, but painting. Its something I would never paint on my own and am having some issues with doing it... kinda feel like a "sell out". Compromising my artistic ideals for the sake of the all mighty buck. Just call me Smashmouth... lol. Oh well.. money is money.

I think a questionaire would be a great idea for your site, Funky. It would give the customer more of a feeling of being a part of the creation of their garment.

thats one thing i hate about customs....unless im really into it..it seems forced...but i can usually tell by the email of the person asking for the custom order if i am gonna be into it or not..

I've gotten stuck a few times doing custom work in areas other than sewing.I started asking 20% down non-refundable deposits. Every other business asks the same thing and if they are serious they usually don't mind. 20% usually covers out of pocket costs.

I have decided no more ebay auctions for custom stuff. it is a hassle, usually people who order thru my site are awesome but selling on ebay everyone seems to want something for nothing! it is like a big redneck yardsale hahaha!!!!

    Hello.

I no longer do custom orders due to that exact problem. I had many people come back and say they didn't think the item was what they thought it would be, or that they didn't really like the colors.

Sorry that you had a bad sale.

yeah, custom work... ok, i do design for print work (books/book covers/junk mail), and before i send it out to get a gazillion copies of whatever, we do a proof that the client has to sign off on. once they mark ok, or ok with changes, then i'm no longer responsible if they don't like it. that's the cya document... and i ask too many questions too - lots of stuff people never even consider before a project gets started. of course you can't do a 'proof' per se, but maybe just a basic drawing - colored? and get them to sign off on it. i dunno if that would help cuz sometimes people just don't have the vision to see the finished product until it's in their hands, and then it's too late for changes. just a thought
