What are some bands currently making music that you think are doing great things?

The new War on Drugs album came out just a couple days ago, and it is phenomenal. It exceeds the last album, which was also great.

On paper, this group does not sound like something that that would interest me, but their sound is amazing. The closest thing you might compare it to is the Heartland Rock of the 80s put out by Springsteen, but with more of an keyboard/synth influence and modern-day production standards. Along with 80s Springsteen, their music contains elements of Dire Straits, Tom Petty and Bob Dylan.

I saw these guys live in 2015 in support of their last album and was blown away.

This is one of my favorite tracks off the new album.

Reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac's Gypsy (1982) but without the hook. What's old is new again.

The first one that comes to mind is Alt-J.

EDIT: I picked up their CD "Relaxer" and I distinctly remember being really impressed with some of the material. Now that I'm giving it a second listen I can't figure out what I was on about. Maybe I'm off. Does anyone else think Alt-J are talented, or am I wired funny? :)

The Julie Ruin keeps getting better and and better.

Singer-wongwriter Kathleen Hanna's (most of you will know her as the wife of that one Beastie Boy) battle with late-stage Lyme disease makes seeing them live highly unlikely, but last year's Hit Reset was a step up from their awesome debut Run Fast.

my ignorance of current music isn't out of any sort of aggravated bias,
i just don't have time for sources of amusement that are about wanting money.

i did though, when i was younger of course, but now other thoughts and other things,
take up all of my time. i do add to what i collect, things that interest me, that are free.
