I deal with bouts of binge eating disorder, but conversely I know that food, the communal enjoyment of it, its health-bringing potentials, the preparation and creation of it, can be some of life's great pleasures.

A friend of mine who recently confessed to me that she has also dealt with binge eating issues in her life said that to her it was always more out of control and scarier than any high point of alcohol or drug use in her life. I'd have to concur with her assessment. At the same time she told me that I have lots of "culinary amore'" to look forward to in my life.

Recently I've been trying really hard to listen to my body's REAL hunger signals, and only eat when truly hungry. Also, I've been trying to be really creative in the kitchen, making healthy and experimental recipes, and learning to just enjoy food for what it's supposed to be instead of using it to smother my emotions and traumas from past experience.

Has anyone on here with a history of eating disorders (of any kind) been able to get to a point where they have a healthy relationship with food? Has anyone been able to curb their destructive behaviors around food? Thanks for any input, guys!
