Howdy, folks! i'm back from the hospital for a few days ~ now i need a room! (Got sick as could be and i'm more out of shape than i thought... ) Anyway, where are we on the Using the CT Forum for Politics threads? Looks to me like most folks are down with it. And are we going to nominate and/or vote in some Mods? If so, i think it would be good idea to let everyone that wants to sort of Throw Their Hat Into The Ring, as it were, with a little post about their abilities ~ that way, we aren't nominating people that really don't want the job. So. What do y'all think?
I vote NO Moderators.. I think general discussion forums like this really don’t need full time moderators. Sometimes robot spam does need deleted like “view my sexy underage porn for money”, Or maybe a extreme personal attack. But I don’t think there is any harm on threads in a general discussion forum getting off topic, it’s not like scientist will be searching these threads for a cure for cancer or a code to debug the latest open source program. Personally I don’t think a full time moderator needs to watch a place with this amount of traffic.
Okay, so the Anarchists have it! Each everyone is to Moderate their own selves! But the spam thing is a prob, as well as an actual Mod with the ability to monitor IP addy's and actually BAN bad actors, so if we let someone that wants the experience of being a Mod do it, they'll learn all the ins-and-outs of doing the job, without the pressure to constantly be Doing Something about this, that or the other. Sound reasonable? i'll nominate Drew, again, if i might ~ he's fairly new, here, and hasn't had a chance to infuriate anyone too badly, yet, which is a BIG plus! He wants the job, and is willing to devote the time and effort to learning it, and he seems like a normal, nice guy! (Famous last words, i know! lmao) There's also the little problem of running it all by Skip ~> hmmm... Put up with Ari and Balbus poking around in here, or request a new Mod? Okay, so who knows Skip the best?
I promise not to go power crazy, too. And I agree with zihger, we really don't need a full time mod here, due to the amount of traffic, and I certainly wouldn't be deleting huge swathes of people's posts, or moving threads where they don't belong. But we do need someone who is dedicated to removing the nonsense posts and spam, especially if we are going to be seeing more traffic in here. (which I think is wonderful!) I promise to respect anyone with a differing opinion from mine, and to hear them out before posting my rebuttal, instead of talking in circles, thus getting us nowhere. I really appreciate the nomination, Fyrenza, and I would be honored to become a moderator here.
