Britain in shock after sending BNP to European Parliament

Politics outside of the U.S. and the Middle East tend to go by quietly here on the HF, but I'd like you to take a good look at what's going on in the U.K. In the wake of the decimation of the Labour Party, the BNP has picked up two seats. The BNP (The British National Party) is a far-right, whites-only political party. (Read: fascist)

    From their manifesto:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/shared/bsp/h..._manifesto.pdf Have a closer look for more references to White Britain.

Basically, BNP would like Britain to return to its former White glory. They have recently been legitimized as a political party by winning two seats in Europe under Britain.

I find it hard to believe that it is even legal for an essentially racist party to be able to run for elections.

Do you find BNP policies to be racist? If not, then what are they?
Is there anything wrong with BNP holding political power?
Do you think the BNP's seats are just temporary as the Labour Party sorts out their mess?
Do you see the BNP gaining power? Do you see them influencing other, similar parties in Europe?
Is the BNP a powerless party in the grander scheme of things, or do they do harm race relations in the U.K. and beyond?

I think this is a serious blow to race relations in the U.K. I will say with no reservations that the U.K. now has blatant racists with racist policies holding political seats. As their manifesto implies, they'd like to send away their "coloreds" to their nation of heritage, despite actually being Britons...in order to make Britain a better, whiter place. They actually have a program for this.

What do you think of this? Is this just opportunism at a time of Labour's disintegration? Is this telling of worsening problems in the U.K.?

    My $.02

racist definitely. and i definitely see something wrong with the bnp holding power. i think things like this (i'm fairly ignorant to how things are in uk) are directly related to the bad state of the world economy. i think this sort of thing will last as long as the bad economy lasts. i have no idea what they'll influence in europe. if it's only 2 seats, and if it's anything like america, i don't think it'll have much of an effect. don't know the answer to that next question.

honestly, what i think of this is...well #1 i think people have a right to be racist if they so choose. but i also believe this is a pretty bad reflection of the attitude of a lot of people in the uk. islamophobia falls in this same category.

    the end is neigh!!!!!

    Deffinitly.
They will say they are not but they are (we are looking after white rights like black people look after black rights etc).
They will openly admit to hating Muslims and Islam....but they are not a race...(their logic not mine).
I've had long winding convo's with BNP supporters on Facebook.
If they arnt racist they end up being xenophobic.
    Normally both.

They don't really have any political power.
The slither they do...they waste...because they hardly ever turn up for local council meetings.
    http://libcom.org/news/article.php/rubbish-bnp-councillors-100406

There will always be racists in the UK...so they will probably always hold a seat here or there...them or a party like them.

    NEVER in a million years.
They don't need to influence other parties in Europe...there is enough nationalist parties there already.

They are powerless in the grand scheme of things.
I think they have about 0.7% of the vote.
They do kinda hurt our image a little...because they wave the flag around and make a lot of noise...so it seems the BNP is a bigger issue than they are (this thread demonstrates that).

NOW? They have been around for a few decades (1982).
I don't think they are a serious blow to race relations.
They get highlighted at election times and most political commentators act like you.
But, the reality is, they preach to the converted.
They pretty much go away the rest of the time...popping up at St Georges day celebrations.
We shouldn't imagine they hold as much sway as other voices.
Plus, they didn't actually gain any extra voters, really.
It is just because the other parties support floundered because of the expenses "scandal".

    "Repatriation"
The BNP has dropped its policy of compulsory repatriation and replaced it with a voluntary scheme.
    http://www.stopthebnp.org.uk/uncovered/pg04.htm

    I imagine so.

    No.

Their culture is being diluted by a vast number of immigrants who live separate lifestyles and would rather group together in a foreign land than adapt to the culture of the place they're using to get forward in life. There's a fuckton of Asians and Blacks who live different lifestyles; once the fuckton of immigrants are capable of voting, their vast numbers will turn the countries infrastructure to suit themselves, leaving the current natives nearly homeless when their country completely changes face.

I dont think theres much to worry about, do you honestly think the BNP could win a general election, and nick griffin end up becoming prime minister, never going to happen is it, and most people, including myself are very much opposed to the BNP, so why worry

I didn't read the article, but from what I've heard, they don't allow non-whites into the party. That would definitely constitute as racist. Smells like controlled opposition to me.

Sure, I mean, the BNP has become quite prominent in the past several years and have been given lots of media attention in the UK. Immigration has become a huge problem in the UK and is a valid concern of many British citizens. What better way to marginalize and discredit the large number of people who realize what's going on in their country, who are non-racist, than by giving attention to a bunch of ignorant, racist hatemongers who serve only to discredit the growing number of people who are becoming discontent with the government regarding immigration, the ever-increasing police state, etc..

Am I saying I have absololute proof of this? No, it's just what I sense based on tactics that governments use to control opposition and discredit any dissenting opinions. Most BNP members seem like a bunch of useful idiots.

If people appose immigration or have issues with it, and are not racist, there are other political parties to join: http://www.ukip.org/ (just as big, if not bigger than the BNP.)
People that join the BNP are racist bastards and, they don't really have a problem with immigration per se...they have a problem with coloured immigration.
I don't mind any marginalisation, or anybody being discredited if they are members of a racist political party.

The BNP disgust me on every level. I'm completely anti-violence, but given half a chance I'd happily beat the shit out of Nick Griffin. Their propoganda van, aka the "Truth Truck", was in my town recently. If I'd known it was coming I would have prepared some Molotovs.

UKIP in the European elections was actually the 2nd biggest party in Britain. How do you feel about people calling the UKIP nothing but the BNP for the middle class? While I don't think I'd vote for the UKIP in a national election if I lived in Britain I would most definitiley have voted for the UKIP just on the EU issue.

What scared me is when that long list of member came out last year.
I found out there were about 10 BNP supporters in spitting distance of where I live...breathing my air and shopping where I do. I felt dirty.

Indeed, there were a lot in my town. It's hardly suprising though, this town is full of rascists. I gave them all nice prank calls though. :D
